BVI still remembered | Local tourism gets more top ratings

Though still recovering from the onslaught of the September 2017 hurricanes, the British Virgins Islands continues to receive top ratings in the tourism industry.

The Caribbean Journal recently rated Anegada among the top 18 best islands to visit in the region. Now, the US News & World Report has named the British Virgin Islands as the number-one best place to vacation in the Caribbean.

The publication said the BVI was named the best based on “user votes and expert insights, plus factors like accessibility to beaches, tourist attractions, and comfortable accommodations”.

In a short feature on the territory, the US News & World Report highlighted the territory’s sailing industry and the class of its resorts and villas.

“The BVI are some of the most exclusive and least developed islands of the Caribbean, but this only adds to their appeal.”

And while painting a picture of local tourism on the four main islands, the publication said: “On Tortola, you’ll find mountainous cliffs and chalk white beaches, characterized by changing tides and calm easterly winds.”

“A brief sail away, sleepy Jost Van Dyke offers delicious Caribbean food and drink, one of the region’s best New Year’s Eve parties, as well as a few outdoor excursions like diving and fishing.”

“On Virgin Gorda, you’ll find The Baths, perhaps the most picturesque shore in the British Virgin Islands, and with good reason: It offers unique grottoes amidst gigantic granite boulders (just be mindful of the day-tripping crowds). For supreme seclusion, try Anegada; its slow pace, flat terrain and sparkling sand lies almost overlooked in the Caribbean Sea.”

The BVI ranked above St Lucia, which is dubbed the second-best tourism destination in the Caribbean.

The neighbouring US Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands were ranked third and fourth, respectively.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Barts, Anguilla, Curacao, Cayman Islands, and Antigua follow, in that order.

The tourism industry is the BVI’s second largest revenue-earner, and it is still trying to return to its pre-hurricane glory.

Local authorities predict it will be years before the local tourism sector is fully restored. But, while the territory advances towards restoration, two major cruise lines have witnessed the BVI’s progress and have announced their plans to resume calls to the territory in August and October, respectively.

Those cruise lines are Disney and Norwegian cruises.

https://m.escapehere.com/destination/10-best-caribbean-island-vacation-destinations/ my people read for yourself. That’s just a marketing strategy by someone to get tourism to rebound in the British Virgin Islands. Travel magazine earlier this week voted Jamaica as the top tourism destination.

    • Question says:

Would Jamaica be a place you personally would list for a leisure trip.
Would you rent a car and travel to remote places on the island of Jamaica.
Would you venture out of the gated community where you are staying?
Would you go for a jog or walk alone.
Would you feel comfortable not seeing policemen/security during your visit.
Would you be comfortable not being protected from the threat or perceived threat of the natives.
Would you be comfortable not seeing the expected attractions of ” where thw natives live”.

Why the need to criticize another island. Why not just be thankful that the .I. was so highly thought off. And no I am not Jamaican.
Caribbean people while being pround of where they are from and rightly so should resist the urge to try and put others down instead WISH the best to all the CARIBBEAN ISLANDS

I can’t believe that THIS GOOD NEWS has so many haters. You really can’t help yourselves from being mean spirited and ugly to one another can you? Go on, blame the UK or the political party opposite yours. No wonder all the other island nations are recovering faster. Too busy hating on good news to make progress. SMH

Delicious food in JVD? Can somebody tell me where?

Could never find a high end restaurant there. Just same old, same old…. Except prices are high…yes!

    Hello,
The BVI is our favorite area to visit. The islands are beautiful, the people are so polite and helpful, and the natural beauty there is stunning. The devastation after the storms broke our heart for all of you wonderful people there in the BVI.
We are coming to Jost in a few weeks and are looking forward to continuing our visits to your wonderful community.
