BVI to host 67th Meteorological Council Session
The government will be hosting the 67th Session of the Meteorological Council (CMC67) from November 18 to November 22.
The Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) collaborates with various weather and climate-sensitive sectors, including aviation, disaster management, agriculture, water resources, health, energy, tourism, and finance.
“As we witness the impacts of climate change in our region, it is crucial to engage in these discussions as these effects are not a distant concern; they are affecting us now,” Communications Minister, Kye Rymer stated.
The CMC meets once per year, usually in a different Member State over a two-day period.
The CMO is a specialised agency of the Caribbean Community that shares unrestricted information regarding climate and water-related sciences in 16 English-speaking Caribbean countries — Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos Islands.
These countries aim to provide support as the Caribbean is more susceptible to climate change.
Additionally, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, who was most recently the Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, has advocated for Climate Funding from larger countries.
Deputy Premier Julian Fraser was appointed as the Minister for Environment on Wednesday, October 23.
