BVI under new 7-day curfew from 8pm to 5am

The British Virgin Islands is under a new curfew which will run from 8 pm to 5 am daily, starting today, Thursday, September 24.

In a late-night media release around minutes before 11 pm on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said this latest curfew will run for seven days — the final day being October 1.

Under this new curfew order, persons are prohibited from operating vessels in BVI waters between 6 pm and 5 am, except for ferry operators who may travel between 5 am and 8 pm, the ministry said.

It further said persons are prohibited from operating a vessel within the maritime exclusion zones except where authorised by the Joint Task Force.

“Moreover, a person will be prohibited from operating a vessel across the Territorial borders except where authorised by the Governor in consultation with the Minister for Health,” the media release stated.

As of September 23, there are eight active cases of the coronavirus in the territory.

So basically in the bvi you are far more likely to die in a scooter accident
    than CV19

BVI government needs to urgently borrow $100m as they have run out of money. Let’s talk about THAT!

I don’t want to take the position of critiquing the government over these repeated lock downs as the alternative to opening up society and the economy completely and prematurely prior to a vaccine can cost lives. None of us want that.

However, I cannot help but think these repeated lock downs has to be causing tremendous stress and hardship to my people.

Given this reality, it is incumbent on the government to recognize that people are hurting, and to continue helping both people and businesses financially who are hurting until we can do better.

Keep the unemployment checks coming, and whatever other financial stimulus relief that can be afforded to both individuals and businesses.

And yes, local banks need to be good corporate citizens. They need to recognize the gravity of the situation and that we are not operating as business as usual.

They should make a sincere effort to offer some relief to their customers who have loans, mortgages, or other accounts and are unable to make their regular payments. That should be inclusive of foreclosures.

They also need to seriously consider suspending some of their fees, if not done already, or void them for the time being until the economy re-opens.

We should be all in this together. Hang tight folks. We shall get thru this.

Well, while dying from any cause prematurely is bad, comparing deaths from covid to scooter accidents is not a fair comparison.

The country has no good choices right now in combating this virus from spreading other than these social distancing measures and curfews.

As you know there is no vaccine at the ready to deal with the virus. So these measures is all we have at our disposal right now to limit the spread.

I understand your frustration, but the alternative is unthinkable.

It is like they are always speaking in code, trying to talk smart, but no thought about saying thing CLEARLY. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!
My boat is sitting in a boatyard and I am paying for storage. This is costing me money.
Is boating OK now outside the exclusion zone? I hope so!

I think the answer is no, unless you operate a ferry

          That means:

You cannot be on the sea between 6pm and 5am but can be on the sea between 5am and 6pm.

Actually if you have read any recent medical updates they say that with flu you get sneezing & phlegmy coughs, but not so with COVID-19. Hence you can generally tell the difference.
