BVIEC suffers cyber attack

BVIEC a victim of cyber attack

The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) announced on Monday, August 19, that it had fallen victim to a cyberattack.

The power company stated that the attack has impacted both their internal and external operations.

While the full details of the cyberattack have not been disclosed, BVIEC has assured the public that they are working closely with experts and law enforcement agencies, both locally and in the United Kingdom, to resolve the issue and restore operations to normal as soon as possible.

In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Ernesto, BVIEC has been working tirelessly to restore electricity across the British Virgin Islands. The corporation explained that their current focus is on restoring the main feeder lines before addressing individual homes, which is why some residences in the same areas may have power while others do not.

In their latest update, BVIEC informed the public that they are currently working in the Great Mountain and Josiah’s Bay areas. Additionally, they announced that electricity has been fully restored in Virgin Gorda following the storm.

Residents in areas still without power are encouraged to remain patient and understand the unforeseen challenges that crews are facing, as advised in earlier statements.
