BVIFA heightening security! Cops recover footage of schoolboy attack
The BVI Football Association (BVIFA) will be heightening security at its games following a recent attack on student-athletes involved in a football match between Bregado Flax Educational Centre and Elmore Stoutt High School last Wednesday.
President of the BVIFA, Andy Bickerton gave that indication after a BVI News report of the incident that took place at the Greenland field in East End. The police have reportedly recovered surveillance footage of the incident.
“With over 10 years experience of organising games between island teams, we have never encountered outside violence of this, or any kind,” Bickerton said in an official press statement. “The BVIFA does not condone nor will it tolerate violence and we will do everything we can to assist the police in their investigation of the matter”
Bickerton further said that as an immediate effect of the incident, the BVIFA will boost security around the field to ensure the future safety of its players, officials, coaches and fans.
The BVIFA said the incident was seemingly caused by a group of youths with no connection to the game, adding that such actions have no place in sports or at a venue primarily serving sports and young people.
At least one student had to receive treatment at hospital after the incident. The BVIFA said it will not be making any further comments until the conclusion of the police investigation. It said it has every faith that the authorities will view the video footage and take the appropriate action.
