BVIFA launches new coach training programme
Technical Director of the BVI Football Association (BVIFA), Paul Decle, has launched a new coach training programme aimed at strengthening football development in the territory.
One week after announcing the initiative at a press conference on Friday, March 7, the BVIFA commenced its D License Course. The programme covers an introduction to football, the roles and characteristics of a coach, and interactive lectures and activities.
“One of the major projects we have embarked on is establishing a structured Coach Education department, which will be instrumental in coaching development,” Decle stated. “This is how we plan to impact not only the coaches but also players from the ground level up.”
He emphasised the BVIFA’s collaboration with CONCACAF to ensure the program aligns with international coaching standards.
As part of the initiative, Decle highlighted the importance of increasing female participation in football. He announced the return of the Women’s League in mid-March, noting that the association has reinvested in the programme.
“We’ll be using [the league] to identify female coaches we can develop because we need more women involved in football,” he said. “Our coaching courses are now available, we have a yearly calendar, and these are open to anyone in the BVI interested in coaching.”
Decle, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, was appointed BVIFA Technical Director last year.
The association also introduced two new full-time coaching staff members: David Perez from Madrid and Fitzgerald Carter from Barbados, who will serve as Women’s Development Director. Both appointments are funded by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
