BVIHSA denounces ‘malicious WhatsApp message’ gone viral

Below is a media release from the BVI Health Services Authority dated Wednesday July 7, 2021.

The BVI Health Services Authority has been made aware of a false report that is questionably attributed to an employee of our organisation and currently in circulation in the form of a WhatsApp message.

The public is being informed that the content of this message is woefully inaccurate; and we therefore urge all to be mindful of its malicious intent.

Key members of the BVI Health Services Authority have looked at said message and noted that the flagrant untruths listed makes it obvious that the author is not a nurse employed at the BVI Health Services Authority or even a nursing practitioner.

Secondly, it is a universal practice that healthcare workers are mindful about disclosure of patient information. Therefore, the conjecture about patients at the facility further makes it clear that the writer of this mischievous missive is not a nurse. The BVIHSA would like to assure the public that we take patient confidentiality very seriously.

This is evident by the fact that every member of staff upon commencement of employment with the BVI Health Services Authority is required to take an Oath of Secrecy in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths.

We also would like to assure the community that if a member of staff is found in breach of said Oath of Secrecy, the BVIHSA will take swift action which will include immediate termination and possible legal implications.

This is not good, especially now the BVI is under COI. Do government and public services management ensure their people are trained on confidentiality and ethics? Not good
