BVIPA in need of legal services

The BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) has indicated that it is currently in need of legal services.

The Authority gave that indication in a tender notice inviting bids from eligible candidates to provide these services.

The BVIPA did not disclose the reason it needs these services nor did it say whether these services are for the short, medium or long term. However, the Authority said  interested persons have until the end of January to submit their bids.

Based on information published on the Authority’s official website, there are at least three separate managerial positions currently being advertised — Managing Director, Compliance Manager, and Deputy Managing Director.

They were all published on the BVIPA’s website last month.

The Managing Director job vacancy was posted on December 20 last year — one day after BVI News reported that the BVIPA has been operating without a managing director for nine months; despite the absence of Oleanvine Maynard who held that post but has been incarcerated in the United States (US).

The Compliance Manager vacancy was also posted on December 20 while the Deputy Managing Director post was published three days later. Operations Manager Dean Fahie had been serving as the Acting Deputy Managing Director in Maynard’s absence but information on the BVIPA website suggests that he is no longing serving in that acting role.

  1. Nothing new says:

This is normal for Statutory entities to advertise for such services among others.

Having all Sea Ports including Pier Park operating under one head, one direction one director the same policies..As it is Now Seems like Port and Pier Park at a power or control struggle, hence the reason for all the confusion with the Taxi at Pier park during cruise ship days. Who is in charge Port are Pier Park, No one knows, wasn’t Mr. V. Lewis was given that Job. What happen to That? Why can’t Mr. Lewis Run all two? One MD need to take charge of all two. It was better how it was under port, don’t know why they change it..

Please release the current audit of the BVIPA so that the legal service bidders know if their prospective client is a deadbeat or not.

  4. Busy Bee says:

Oops! Seems like the Port Authority had perfectly competent legal advice up until the board wanted to do an unscrutinised lease for undoubtedly over-priced office space from one of the board members (scratch each other’s back?)… Then the board promptly fired the legal services provider for calling out the board’s unethical behaviour.
The board seemed perfectly happy to ignore well-thought-out legal advice before, why would we think they will listen this time?

Make a Bid?? On what? For what? One days work? four years?

BVIPA needs Jesus and by extension the whole dam government and country.

  7. Poor Journalism says:

This is such poor journalism lol

The ad clearly states where to find the RFP (12 pages) which spells out the requirements and includes the timeframe.
