BVI’s national security begins with discipline in the home

Premier Andrew Fahie

Premier Andrew Fahie has expressed that national security for the BVI must start with discipline in the home.

The territory’s leader was at a time responding to questions at a recent press conference about measures taken to enhance border security and address safety and security concerns in general for the BVI.

Premier Fahie said the safety and security of the territory is something that remains an ongoing concern.

“Real, true security of any country starts home. What do we do with our children?” the Premier questioned.

“Because whenever someone gets involved in crime; usually when persons get involved in crime, it comes from a matter of not being disciplined from in the homefront and it just mushrooms through the school system and then it ends up in the community. I don’t care where you live in the world, that’s how it starts,” Premier Fahie added.

The Premier argued that much of the security for the BVI ‘doesn’t need a dime’ but rather it just needs ‘us to pay attention to our children’.

He said parents need to continue to speak to their children and to do the best that they can as parents to train them up to ensure they respect themselves, respect others, abide by the law and be productive citizens.

According to the Premier, government will take care of other areas as much as it can.

“We help our security by other programmes because there’s no way that the police or any law enforcement can fight crime on their own, usually that’s a reactive measure,” Premier Fahie said.

The Premier also shared that some of the work needs to be done from within schools. He said this work includes creating better school environments.

He further told reporters that funds were placed in the territory’s budget to ensure that there are better facilities within the schools and to help with materials.

  1. say what says:

    Help me understand!

Fahie is saying that persons involved in breach of people’s private life by planting cameras in people’s homes and passing these videos around the BVI are due to the parents not disciplining these individuals at a younger age.

OK so what does this say about you Fahie who knew about this video and does nothing to discipline the persons who commit such acts and we all know he is family to that person.

As far as I know, every person is responsible for whatever crime they may commit.

Stop blaming the parents for the outcome of their kids.

a man who rape a child was not taught to do so by the parent.

every man is responsible for their own action as a grownup
Just do your job and bring them to law enforcement.
    BVI is small

    • Scientist says:

I’d stay start by investing in education. Would be nice too if those in public office were held accountable for fiscal wastage? Discipline may well begin at home, but leading by example goes a long way.

  4. WEW says:

And a little fiscal discipline. Quit the crazy spending and siphoning off the taxpayers money

He had a point like him or hate him.

    • let me get this straight says:

the crime, drugs and sleaze are OUR fault! This is victim-blaming of monstrous proportions. A self-serving narrative to excuse their sleeping at the wheel, and exonerate them from responsibility. The manifesto is “elect us and we will do ….nothing”

  6. how about helping says:

Help all the people trying to run after-school or weekend programs that give the children skills. Implement a bus service around the BVI so children can get to camps and courses when their parents can’t drive.
Don’t give a dime to the churches for BS programs via CSK.
Seriously for what you have spent helping CSK start a new business, I could have got a year-round territory wide after-school program happening but carry on.

How can boarder security be effective when the department’s that is supposed to be upholding the law are the ones allegedly involve in smuggling among other illegal activities.
Police special UNIT is made up of more expats than locals. It’s all about a pay check for most of them and to he’ll with the country it’s not theirs they are making the US dollar to send home to their country.
Customer have a bunch of duckies that can’t do anything lawful, they are locals that heads are up their ads with boast and doing their illegal things undercover.
Immigration is a bunch of puppets on a string. They have good ones among them but they can’t do their job effectively due to government ministers who micromanage their leader. We are talking about boarder security. Boarder fools with go fast boats and firearms to decorate them. If this VIP government don’t be removed and the management of customs and police don’t be replace with the best interest of this country in heart we will be a doomed country where this boarder security is concern. Andrew you need to stop playing a black robin hood and stop micromanaging the government ministers, let them do their jobs and do what is right. Robin hood rides horses and shoot arrows, can you?

How can national security begin at home when the government put in that stupid law about you can’t beat your kids or you could get locked up or charge. Beating never killed US back in the days growing up and I get my child they doing wrong and disrespecting me in my house I work hard to build and enjoy and I can’t beat them. Never. Government make it difficult and now u saying it begins at home. Sort out your self.
