Cabinet to award contract for BVITB’s tourism plan soon

Premier Andrew Fahie

Significant developments are happening in the local tourism sector; one of which has to do with drafting the territory’s tourism plan.

Speaking at a press conference last week, Premier Andrew Fahie said: “Soon, the Cabinet will be making an award — based on the tender process that took place — to the new company that will be assisting the Tourist Board with the overall tourism plan.”

“Soon the BVI Tourist Board’s three-year, 2022-2025, strategic plan will be ready for discussion and also implementation given some of the factors that the tourism plan will be highlighting,” he further announced.

The territory’s leader, who also serves as Minister of Tourism, further revealed that the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) is preparing to launch its new website in May 2022.

He said the website will be a critical tool for the BVI’s guests to interface with tourism industry partners and learn about the BVI‘s tourism product offerings.

Campaign adding fresh imagery for BVI

He also disclosed that a destination marketing photo and video shoot is planned for May 2022 which is expected to provide fresh imagery of the territory as a tourism destination.

The imagery, he said, will be used in the territory’s worldwide and digital marketing promotions and a casting call for local participants has already been issued in this regard.

Highlighting some of the other plans in the works, Premier Fahie said a new North American campaign for 2022-2023 is almost finalised and planning has begun for a ‘Christmas in July’ event at Pond Bay in Virgin Gorda.

He said more than 2,000 guests are expected for this event and it is hoped that they can provide a much-needed economic boost to the territory.

Hopefully the plan fixes the Customs issue with allowing MY to come to the BVI… we are loosing so much business as boats cannot just turn up, or plan a copuple days in advance… 2 weeks to sort out the paperwork mess Customs demands… killing the business.

  2. Son of the Land says:

We have seen the Christmas in July events. It’s an awesome beach party. But the economic impact is minimal if there’s any. It’s a good event though.

    • @son of the land says:

They add a whole lot more than cruise shippers.

They are purchasing everything from fuel, shopping at food and clothing markets/shops, restaurants, gifts, bars, taxis, rental vehicles, some rent villas, pay cruising fees and a lot more.

Let’s also not forget the friendships that exists between BVI and PR … and NEVER forget they were the first on the scene after Irma to offer assistance.

Loose lips short on substance. They’ve almost killed the industry and now at the 11th hour saying ‘Hail Mary’

The same tourism plan Sharie was suppose to present by the end of last year?

  5. I hope says:

Hopefully tourism can create a tour map of BVI dumpsters, smoking dumps and overflowing sewers. I know these are easy enough to find, but the fact that there are so many, a map would help tourists find them all. Oh yes, foul mouthed drug hustling scooter riders could be listed too. Start with the bunch in cane and work up to the big dogs.

  7. BVISR says:

So glad to hear the plans for something in July when the biggest event of the country is just weeks away.
The BVI Spring Regatta has over 70 boats entered to race. That is significant tourism for the country. Those coming to the island have chartered boats, rented villas, hotels rooms, cars, have been using marine business to prepare their vessels to race. Not to mention restaurants, groceries, provisions and more. The marine sector is paramount to the counties tourism and one would hope there will be significant attention paid to it.

    • WTF says:

The Government is actively suffocating the marine sector. Look at how they treat the sector’s democratically elected representatives! Don’t hold your breath. The goose is already cooked.

  8. Huh? says:

With all these new plans already in place, what exactly will the new contracts be about? Seems like the hard work is already done and without outsourcing contractors.
