Callwood flown overseas after serious accident
A young BVIslander, JoVaughn Callwood, has been flown out of the territory to undergo emergency treatment following a nasty motorcycle accident at a residence on Tortola yesterday, June 3.
The youngster, who is the son of well-known businessman Elton Callwood, is bleeding internally and is said to be in critical condition.
The accident unfolded in the early afternoon yesterday, and JoVaughn was rushed to Peebles Hospital where he underwent operation.
That’s when the internal bleeding was detected.
He was then flown out of the British Virgin Islands about six o’ clock this morning to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, United States.
JoVaughn’s father told BVI News Online that his son was clearly ‘in pain’ when he visited him at Peebles Hospital yesterday.
The elder Callwood further said: “They (medical personnel) opened him here in Tortola to try and see if they could stop it (the bleeding), but they couldn’t. So we had to ship him out to Fort Lauderdale. He is now in Fort Lauderdale in theatre. I am waiting on my wife who went with him to find out [the latest].” He told BVI News Online that his son does not own a motorcycle.
Details of how the accident unfolded are still sketchy. But, at the time it happened, the youngster had visited his friend’s residence on Tortola to help repair the motorcycle involved in the accident.
