Career Expo coming to help the unemployed

Amid cries of unemployment in the community, HireBVI will be hosting its annual career exposition on Friday, June 2 to expose residents to careers, job opportunities, and educational options in the Virgin Islands.

The event will be held at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola.

Job seekers are asked to attend the career exposition well-prepared, professionally dressed, and groomed. They are also asked to take a well-prepared résumé.

HireBVI said the career exposition will provide an opportunity for finding jobs, learning about careers, educational options, and networking. The organisation also said it has held activities for students ahead of the event, even though they aren’t entering the job market right now.

The organisation hosted a Facebook live career readiness conversation on May 24, which provided tips on being employable.

“We also held essay and art competitions for students ages 7-17 years. These pieces depicted the career aspirations of the participants. At HireBVI, we make every effort to assist and prepare job seekers for success in the work environment,” said Rekeema Turnbull-Caines, Managing Director of HireBVI.

Turnbull-Caines, further noted: “For the first time, we targeted students for some of the activities leading up to the exposition because we understand the importance of giving them a space to explore their creativity and give flight to their dreams. We encourage all seniors of the various high schools to attend.”

The event has many sponsors from the business community: ACE – Achieving Career Excellence, 284Media, CCT, J&C Trading, Sol Gas Station, Sebastians on the Beach, Sailaway Wellness and Spa Services, RoadTown Wholesale (RTW), among others.

For more information about this Career Exposition, persons are asked to call 284-442-HIRE/4473, email [email protected] or visit www.hirebvi.com

Why not freeze issuing new work-permits between the months of June thru September until most of the graduates are given a chance/preference to be hired?

Freeze hiring and wait? You can tell who do not own or run businesses. That is the dumbest thing ever. This is real life and the world doesnt wait on anyone. Im all for locals getting first preference and proper training but the rest is up to them.
