CASH-STRAPPED: ATMs to reopen this week

Two financial institutions on Tortola have started working on their automated teller machines (ATMs) so that persons on the Island can get access to much-needed cash.
Insiders at Scotiabank and First Bank in Road Town said they are hoping to get their ATMs up and running this week.
The machines have been out of service since Hurricane Irma struck the Island on September 6.
The Scotiabank employee told BVI News that once the machines become functional, customers may only be able to withdraw a limited amount of cash per transaction.
The insider added that the daily withdrawal limit may be less than the usual amount.
Only a handful of businesses were able to reopen after Hurricane Irma devasted the British Virgin Islands last week.
These businesses, however, are now only accepting cash from customers.
One such establishment is Bobby’s Supermarket in Road Town.
“No [debit or credit] cards; cash alone. Once you have money you could come,” said a worker at the supermarket.
