Celebrations as King Charles crowned at coronation

King Charles being crowned.

BBC: King Charles has been crowned at his coronation, the first in the UK for 70 years.

The Archbishop of Canterbury placed the St Edward’s Crown on the King’s head during a ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

The crown was made for King Charles II in the 17th Century and is only worn when the monarch is crowned – meaning King Charles III is not due to wear it again.

After the King was crowned, his wife Camilla was crowned Queen.

The couple are now returning to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach.

The Coronation began at 11:00 BST and ended at 13:00, with the main theme being the importance of service.

That theme was reflected in the oaths and prayers King Charles made, and the sermon delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

“I come not to be served, but to serve,” the King said in his first prayer after reaching the abbey.

“We are here to crown a King, and we crown a King to serve,” the Archbishop opened his sermon with.

“The King of Kings, Jesus Christ, was anointed not to be served, but to serve. He creates the unchangeable law that with the privilege of power comes the duty to serve,” he added.

In the abbey, Charles was proclaimed as the “undoubted King” in the first stage of the ceremony.

The congregation was then asked to show their homage and service, shouting “God Save the King”.

Yet among the music and oaths, there were moments of complete silence as each stage of the ancient ceremony finished.

In the most sacred part of the service, the King was shielded from public view by anointing screens while choristers sang Handel’s Zadok the Priest – performed at every coronation since 1727.

Prince William also made a pledge of loyalty to King Charles, before members of the congregation were invited to offer their own support.

Gun salutes were made at 13 locations across the UK, including in London, Edinburgh and Hillsborough, at the moment King Charles was crowned, while the bells of Westminster Abbey rang for two minutes.

Meanwhile, the crowd on The Mall broke out in a chant of “God Save the King”, and the sound of popped corks could be heard.

Some 2,300 people were inside the abbey for the service.

  4. Confused. Very. says:

What? The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. The world and they that dwell therein. God is King of all kings. Save us your people, Father! From the perils and strife in this world. They do not want us to recognise you or your word. They want us to recognise a human being, mere mortal, and to go against your word and bring all manner of evil into the society as law. God is the most high King who blesses, provides, saves. He has a mansion built for me. He oreserves me and not the other way around. He deserves the highest praise. I do not understand the insistence on preserving an age old tradition that has no relevance in today’s world.

  5. Not my king. I am not his subject. says:

I reject this entire notion of royalty. We are all humans no one higher than the other. Those who see themselves as kings and queens have to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom like every other human.

I personally bow down to no one especially those who believe they are somehow superior human beings.

There is nothing unique about them except their history of stolen wealth, genocide of a people, and white supremacy.

If there is one thing about life I really like is that these self proclaimed royalty have an expiration date…specially a date with death something they cannot prevent even with all their so call royalty and ill gotten wealth.

As a person of color every since I was young, in my mind there was something wrong with an institution whose makeup in everyway did not look like me.

I never as a child from elementary school believed in waving the union jack when members of that instituted visited and drove by. I never bought into that sinister fairytale.

I have never felt in my entire life inferior to any other race of people, and could never support an institution that supported slavery and built it’s wealth on the backs of my people. Never.

As far as I am concerned, the British Monarchy is a relic of the past that should be abolished. The people of the U.K. should stop giving their sizable tax dollars to the biggest welfare family in the U.K.

As far as the commonwealth countries, I hope more and more abandons this so called head of state out of simple self-respect.

That institution is depending on you for it’s existence. They are counting on you to be good subjects. The firm needs you black and brown folks (the majority of the commonwealth) to keep them relevant. Don’t let them. End this relic.

It’s time to abandon and divorce them in a similar way Barbados has done, and Belize, Jamaica and even Australia is considering.

I cannot look my children in the eyes and tell them I support this institution knowing their history past and present that don’t have people in it that looks like them.

They have shown themselves to be who they are even when one of their own, Prince Harry, had the gall to marry out of their lily white makeup to someone he apparently loves despite by appearance alone you would never thing she was black.

Their reaction towards their own in this instance should tell all black and brown folks you need to know about how they view your kind and race. If they can treat their own differently in this case what do you think they think privately of you in the commonwealth, the majority of whom are black and brown people?

I realize many of you reading have grown up as British Overseas Territory citizens. To many of you, it’s all that you know, and you have grown accustomed to it. It’s time to come to a new reality and stop supporting this fairytale.

It’s 2023. We are not in the darkness anymore. We are an educated, articulate, and smart people with self-worth.

We collectively are not inferior to any other race of people. Value your worth. You are no ones subject.

Let the so called royal family suck salt. They need you more than you need them for their existence.

Stop supporting these people who could care less about you. All they care about is their titles, free money off the back of hard working British tax payers, and societal and world status.

As your self what has the so called royal family done for you lately? I would say not a darn thing.

It’s time to stop supporting these welfare so called kings, queen, and princesses. Be your own kings, queens, and princesses. They do nothing for you. To believe in them is to believe you are less than as a human being. Value your own lives and families. Enough of this bs. Ditch them.

If the British choose to have Parliament and the royals,
I’d say that’s better than a president any day. Look around you
and see what the presidents of this world are doing
for us, the environment and people of color. King Charles has done more than any of them and he’s been doing it since he was a child.
You are not subjugated by the British royal family,
just by your own prejudices and life choices.

Great question. However, it’s a very tall order for a people to wake up after they have been indoctrinated for over 400 years to believe that this relationship that is a product of that indoctrination is in their best interest.

For some, they simply do not know their history or deny it. For others, they go along to get along in that relationship because it benefits them in some way in this society.

I don’t expect a simply blog post about my feelings about the monarchy to get an indoctrinated people to change their views overnight, and I would suggest neither should you.

That can only come from a people who understands and accept their history. Any person of color who understands their history could never in earnest in this day and age accept this relationship.

Some are ok with the status quo and having a Governor from the U.K forever. Others are ok with a local Deputy Governor for ever as well. In my view this is unacceptable in 2023.

I see a people in a wilderness of sort walking in circles endlessly because they don’t know who they are and where they came from. Sadly, some even believe they are indigenous to these lands. As such they cant see where they are going or could go.

People who do not know their history are doomed to continue doing the same thing over and over again. They are conditioned to do so, and cannot escape their plight without enlightenment and education.

I am reminded of the purported words of the late American abolitionist and political activist, Harriet Tubman who was born into slavery, escaped and rescued thousands of slaves, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad:

“I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.”

The BVI needs it’s own Moses (man/woman) to lead it out of this relationship…this wilderness if you may, in a serious way.

It cannot be done picking petty fights with the Governor over a ship vs a barge for boarder security. It cannot be done by calling these Governors racist. It cannot be done when our local leaders are alleged to be involved in the drug trade and getting arrested by the U.S.

It needs a plan of action to take this island nation forward in a sustainable way. A plan of action that our people can embrace and support. The late Queen acknowledged that it’s up to the people in these territories which way they want to go. So it’s up to us.

Unfortunately our politicians have let us down and disappointed many to the point in the last election about half of those eligible to vote didn’t even bother to vote even after registering. But I am not giving up on them. We need them to free us from this relationship one day.

There is a lot of work here to get to that day, and it all starts with knowledge of and acceptance of our history and education. Without that nothing will get done, and we shall remain a OT indefinitely.
