CMO advocates UK’s 10-day COVID isolation vs CDC’s 5-day period

Dr Ronald Georges

Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Ronald Georges said the BVI will be adhering to the UK recommended guidelines of 10 days of isolation for COVID-19 infected persons.

This is in considerable contrast to the five-day isolation period recommended by the United States-based Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

“I know there is a lot of discussion about the CDC and the five-day period. With the UK guidelines, a 10-day isolation period is recommended and there is some consideration for persons who may test out at day seven with a rapid antigen test,” Dr Georges said.

He said any other changes will be made known through bulletins, press releases, or other statements as things progress.

Dr Georges further said persons who are sick should limit their exposure to other persons, particularly children and persons who may have chronic diseases or maybe immunocompromised.

“If you are sick, please do isolate immediately, please limit your exposure, please do wear a mask at all times around other persons and seek to be tested as quickly as possible by antigen or PCR,” Dr Georges said.

The CMO also said that health officials will continue to monitor the situation as it pertains to whether changes to isolation periods may be required and as it relates to business continuity, as this will be a very significant issue.

Dr Georges said business continuity remains a major concern with the Omicron variant next to the sheer numbers of infections that have been generated with the variant.

He said it is important for business owners to look at critical business functions and how these are supported, whether they be online or with critical staff.

The CMO further advised that vaccinated persons who are exposed to the virus should get a test within seven days, while unvaccinated persons should get a test within 10 days.

All persons who have been exposed and all persons who have been asked to isolate and who may be released at seven or 10 days should continue to monitor themselves for a full 14 days, he advised.

Rapidly spreading! Over 200 new COVID cases in less than 72 hours

Dr Georges, we have a problem. People are leaving their homes well before they are supposed to, thus the rapid spread among locals. Government needs to think on how to keep people in quarantine until they test negative because some of them are very self-centered and go wherever they feel, and people don’t know that they are positive and mingle with them.

Belongers think they are immune. How sad…

I actually had a group tell me in the store this. Whole family. I hope they realize they are the problem. And don’t get sick and die.

Life must go on! There are many places moving on with life. We gave people 8 months to get vaccinated and many refused, why should our lives be put on hold because of that? The reason for being vaccinated is not to catch COVID but to experience milder symptoms so why all the locking down because of cases? We have 1300 cases and NOT ONE person has been admitted to the hospital because of COVID. The hospitalized persons were admitted for other reasons and tested positive for COVID and that says all.

I do not agree with any lock down or immobility. However, I do agree with quarantine for those who test positive until they are negative and I believe that was the gist of my post.

I certainly do not agree with any lock down or immobility. However, I do believe in quarantine of those persons who tested positive to avoid the rapid spread. That was the gist of my message.

That is why you should treat everyone that you meet as if they have an active infection. You never know and will never know.

What a horrible way to live. I’d rather die than have to spend the rest of my life treating my fellow human beings like infectious disease bags. I’d feel like this for any disease, but especially for Omicron WHICH IS A COLD. Get a little perspective, please.

      • Jah says:

Agreed. Just like measles, mumps, and chicken pox.

Oh wait, we have vaccines for that…

I agree here. I so much trust the UK over the US people when it comes to intelligence and education. However, when it comes to racism, conquest and conquer..? I don’t trust the UK …. Sorry…

Of course he would! They want to milk this thing for all they can because without COVID they would just be sitting in an office with nothing else to do.

What a crock of utter BS! He now wants to pick and choose when to follow the CDC and when not to? You have totally let me down dread. I had so much faith in you but you now showing your true colors Ronald.

You just want to milk this thing and try to stay relevant for as long as possible with this fear mongering. All of a sudden you want to control people’s lives for 10 days instead of the CDC recommended 5 days? The same CDC you have been following all along? But now it doesn’t fit with your nonsense rhetoric so now you trusting UK? UK is a medical body? You like to brag that only you medical people know anything but you trusting the UK Government over the internationally recognized medical body that is the CDC?

    You are a disappointment now.

Of course it is necessary to “pick and chose” who to follow at times, and this is one of them. Dr Georges and the health officials must make hard decisions based on what is happening in the world. The BVI is a small territory with very little medical resources and from experience, when people go to the hospital now a days for other ills, the staff shun them because everyone is afraid and being as careful as possible where covid is concerned.

  8. Sickening! says:

These people with sure salaries continue to come up with the most ridiculous bulls**t ever! 10 days isolation for f**king what? This is ridiculous! Before COVID, when people were sick, they stayed home or went to the doctor. What is the difference now? If you are sick you do the necessary, if not you carry on with life. You have hundreds of people home on their a**es who had as much as a teary eye because the ‘test’ said they are ‘sick’ but they are ‘not’. How can this make sense to so called educated people? COVID is around 2 years now and we are acting like it is the f**king plague!

  9. Rapid tests says:

The UK has flooded the Nation with the availability of free self tests. its a game changer. Home testing means you can self test if suspected contact, feeling blah and is much quicker to enable isolating if you are + than booking a PCR test. I believe most people are responsible and do isolate (im currently seeing this with several neighbours) and it takes the burden off the MOH to concentrate on those with severe symptoms – and vaccination drive!

It’s a “game changer” to encourage hypochondriacs with no symptoms to hoard tests and obsessively test themselves, leading to false positives, inflated case counts and further panic and hysteria?

This will never end unless we stop testing, stay home if we’re sick and treat this like any other respiratory virus.

  10. Pilot says:

Sorry i do not TRUST the CDC… Period….CDC does not even listen to the WHO as well

Waste of time, money and human resources.

  12. Secret Bear says:

Time for the BVI’s Dr. FAUXci to hang up his hat. Omicron is not the old virus, and forcing health care and other workers to quarantine for 10 days for what is basically a cold will bring the health care system, and the economy in general, to a screeching halt. If they are asymptomatic, let them go to work. If I have a serious health emergency and one of them has to take care of me, I’ll take the chance of being alive and Covid positive than dead and Covid negative.

  13. Bush says:

This George guy is a politrickster gamer/doctor. At the same time my island brothers and sisters are so irresponsible overall that he probably needs a 10 day quarantine just to get an average of five days that people will actually follow. Get it you guys are such slobs rule breakers and ignoramuses that they have to treat you like children. And you ruined your economy the same thing is going on 1 mile away to the west except they didn’t ruin it fact is you failed and who is to get the finger-pointing well your leader ship and the population all idiots some just have their hands on the steering wheel
without outside money the Bvi is over wake up
