Commission of Inquiry ‘attack’ equals to 9/11, Irma, historic crises?

“The potential and sought-after effects of this global attack on the BVI on January 18th 2021 is equalled, in recent times, to a few others … September 6, 2017 [and] September 11, 2001.” — Carvin Malone

Government legislator Carvin Malone has described Governor Augustus Jaspert’s January 18 announcement of a Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the BVI government as an “attack” on the territory.

Malone, who was speaking in an unofficial capacity on his personal Facebook page, seemingly likened the move to a few other major/catastrophic events such as past acts of terrorism and global disasters.

In his post on Wednesday, Malone only referred to the upcoming Commission — and the events he likened it to — by the dates they happened.

He said: “The potential and sought-after effects of this GLOBAL ATTACK on the BVI on January 18th 2021 is equalled, in recent times, to a few others:

January 6, 2021
January 1, 2021
March 12, 2020
September 6, 2017
September 11, 2001.”

Here’s what BVI News recalls about the dates in this timeline.

January 1, 2021 marks the date the UK officially transitioned from the European Union (EU) — a move which has snatched away a number of benefits that the BVI previously enjoyed under that economic bloc.

January 6, 2021 is the day a violent mob of Donald Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn Trump’s defeat in the Presidential elections.

March 12, 2020 marks a day after the World Health Organization first declared the COVID-19 crisis a global pandemic.

September 6, 2017 was the ill-fated day a category 5 Hurricane Irma ravaged the BVI; killing four persons and causing an estimated $3.6 billion worth of damage to property in the territory.

On September 11, 2001, militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the terrorist attacks now infamously known as 9/11.

After listing those dates, Minister Malone then concluded is post saying: “The WORLD awaits the details of the terms and conditions of the COI that was preempted with spectacular GLOBAL announcements designed to fill the room with smoke.”

“These thoughts are personal and not official,” added the Malone, who never specifically called any of the aforementioned events by name.

Malone is d**ty and gu**ty. He’s worried and concerned about some possible prison time. If you’re innocent you should be welcoming the investigation to clear the air. If you’re d**ty then all you do is deflect and try to use racism to gain support. Take a look at Bermuda and their past Premier hiding out in Florida but his corruption trial starts in April. Guess who was Governor there!! Hold on to your shorts Malone. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Not all. Don’t think he is. He is speaking the truth. And no, I am not a political supporter of his. My support for him is that of local and Afro ancestry.

However, most humans of all colors, but especially those who are classified as white have demonstrated, since time immemorial, an aversion to truth, right and righteousness.

It is quite clear that, in simple words, the UK and its citizens don’t want Black BVIslanders to have this territory, its financial capabilities and potentials and natural beauty. They are of the view that here belongs to them.

However, others disagree with that completely. One cannot go into a bank, steal the money and claim it as personal property,. It is not his/hers!

Likewise, these lands were taken from their original owners through bullets and extermiation. The originals settlers did not invite the UK and other pernecious Europeans to come in and exterminate them as payment for their lands. They took the lands inhumanely and illegally by exterminating hundreds of thousands of people..

That history they have obliterated from history books, so today they can falsely assume a high moral ground of ownership. Therefore, they should not be claiming them as theirs.

Watch how quickly, profoundly and profusely, as they always do, place their disapproval thumbs down to this.

Funny how 2+2 equals 4, but most of them vehementaly deny that truth/fact unless it affects their money.

You may be right that “most UK citizens have no idea what or where the BVI is or would claim it,” but those who do know and are attempting to claim it, and those who do not know will eagerly come in to claim. That is the nature of the dominant race, history has taught.

So no, many are not deluded to truth and history. Just that some today are incapable of accepting truth, as your statement so poignantly illustrates.

Last, corruption any where is not good for humanity. Do not condone it, but it is a reality throughout the world, the UK, Europe and America are no exceptions.

But, it is the manner and who is going after that “supposed” corrupton that is creating troubling questions in many BVIslanders minds.

Many feel, with historical to current prescedent, that there are ulterior motives behind all this. And, those motives, if realized will disenfranchise the BVIslander, take away his lands, economy and freedom.

Those feelings are real. Don’t dismiss them as deluded or insignificant. That and those poiltical initiatives could lead to revolution.

For example, just in the 20th century alone the city Benin was looted and burnt to the ground by the UK. Therefore, how can one not be skeptical of them? That is not racism.. That is being realistic after being informed by history.

So let me get this straight, it’s the white people and UK’s fault that BILLIONS of dollars in revenue later, the BVI doesn’t have proper schools, schools are s**t, roads are s**t, no consistent running water, no consistent power supply, no consistent internet services, schools are completely s**t, government offices are still writing on and filing papers and the list goes on. Look around the Territory which has been run by BLACK LOCALS for the last 40 years and tell me why aren’t we better off as a people and how it’s the island man, white man, Asian man or UK’s fault. Nothing is our fault? The BVI Local Government has been spending our own money for decades, we didn’t have to depend on anyone, even the UK for any direct assistance. Now we cannot do the simplest thing without borrowing. Where is the money? If not in our infrastructure or a fund being invested/saved, where is it?

I defend your point of view 100%. Think you missed mine though.

Our governments have squandered our monies for decades. The current dilemma did not begin with NDP or VIP, although VIP has the longest history of being in office.

Fact is, not one government has been good managers of the money. Thus, we have what we have today.

So, some very serious changes need to brought into the political milue, but a commission led by the UK is not one of them. We the people must do more to clean up our politics. How? I really don’t know.

Question, how will these initiatives fix the problems you so intelligently articulated?

It is supposed that the UK take over will. Hope you live to live the regret that will follow.

You acknowledge that the BVI Government has gotten away with squandering our money and not producing value for money for years, then with the same breath, you proceed to say that a COI led by the U.K. is not the way? Please let us know your grand plan to restore order, integrity, transparency & accountability in the BVI since a U.K. led COI “isn’t the way”.

Let me remind you that the U.K. imposed direct rule (aka “taking over”) Turks & Caicos from 2009-2012 after it was proven that the Michael Misick government embezzled millions of tax payers dollars. Turks & Caicos now seem to be doing just fine in 2021, but had they be left to continue on their path of corruption and cronyism, there’s no telling whether Turks & Caicos would be as we know it today. Seems to me that a U.K. intervention did Turks well, so why should we fear it in the BVI?

If this COI means that the BVI is on the road to reformation like Turks & Caicos, then the people of the BVI welcomes it!

      Sneaky move to take over?
What planet do you inhabit? What is the name of our territory? British VI, no? Has been a UK territory since the 1600s, not long after they claimed it and before they brought Africans here for forced labor.
This talk of the UK being a foreign invader, attacker, ‘sneaky’ mover trying ‘take over’ just denies reality.
Some of you use colonialism 101 logic – like you only just learned about it and can’t think beyond it.
What we need to think about is what will be best for the BVI’s people in the long run. In some cases it might be best to fight the colonial power to keep our self-respect, control aspects of our life here.
But this simplethink of black-white means we miss opportunities. Like after Irma when we turned UK into an enemy when they offered us all kinds of help we could have used. Like when they offered us the ship to patrol the borders and leaders claim they are ‘trying to invade’. How could they invade when they been here the whole time?
If we are smart, we use them to our advantage. That doesn’t mean let them kick us around. It means let’s play them, too. The relationship is an advantage we have that other Caribbean islands do not. We need to work it when it suits us.
A UK effort to flush out the deep corruption and stop us falling even further down the dysfunctional, narco-state road, is good for us and our children and beyond.
But some of you got one little bit of information (slavery! colonialism! He white!) and run with it like its the only factor in play. It is not.
Wise up. Be smart. Think about our future.
