Connectivity unleashed: TRC’s survey shapes BVI’s satellite technology
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is on the brink of a telecommunications revolution, and you’re invited to lead the charge.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (Commission) is putting the power in your hands with a survey aiming to redefine telecommunications services via satellite technology (Satellite Services) under the theme “Connectivity Unleashed: Your Voice, Your Choice.”
Guy L. Malone, CEO of the Commission, states, “Connectivity Unleashed means your choices matter; this is more than a catchphrase; it is our guiding principle. Let’s make history together; your input will define the next era of telecommunications in BVI. Let’s craft a technology-centred future that’s truly ours.” George Lewis, COO of the Commission, emphasises,
“In our dedication to a community-centric telecommunications landscape, I encourage everyone to participate in this survey. Your voice will guide the evolution of enhanced satellite services in the BVI.” In recent times, the Commission underwent investigations into individuals and entities illegally providing communication services via satellite technology and decided to take proactive measures to regulate those operating without proper licensing.
Mr. Malone clarifies, “Our commitment to delivering top-tier satellite services is unwavering. The investigations were conducted not to vilify anyone but to bring order to the satellite services landscape and initiate the licensing process for the benefit of our community.”
Ready to make your mark? Here’s how you can join the conversation. The survey is scheduled to go live on 14 December 2023, and you have until 11 January 2024 to share your insights. Visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TRCsatsurvey or scan the QR code.
The survey is designed to be short and user-friendly, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard. The Commission eagerly awaits your thoughts and expectations in the survey. Let’s build a telecom future that truly reflects the choices and voices of the British Virgin Islands.

TRC needs to open the market for satellite services like starlink. We have already seen how a storm can take all telecom infrastructure. Allowing condumers and businessed access to satelite is best for everyone and will also force local ISPs to improve their pricing.
I’d also like to see TRC also moving into 5G services, and forcing telecom providers into a numeric portability policy (allow customers to keep their numbers when they change their provider).
