Construction of market square bus shed starts next week
Months after the development and opening of the new market square in Road Town, the government said it is moving forwarding with plans to construct an accompanying bus shed in the area.
The Public Works Department announced in a press statement on Wednesday that works will begin next Monday, September 4 and are expected to last for two months.
The bus shed, which is expected to be 36 feet in length and is estimated to accommodate more than 30 persons at a time, will come with a pull-off area for public transportation.
Works Minister Kye Rymer previously said that the development is aimed at addressing unsafe practises among persons that operate in, and benefit from the local transportation-for-hire sector in the territory’s capital.
“The bus shelter will be the main hub for the collection of passengers to alleviate the dangerous practice of bus operators collecting passengers at the beginning of the Sir Walter Francis dual carriageway,” Minister Rymer said at the time.
In the meantime, motorists and pedestrians are asked to exercise caution in the area while works are ongoing.

Smack in the middle on display for the arriving tourists expectations.
to keep the construction costs of this bus shed to below $20k, thank you.
ANOTHER MILLION DOLLARS……ANY BETS?
Bet ayo this going cost a measly $500k and still need remedial repairs a year later…most expensive and poorly conceived public project in recent times…Carry on…
I think you forgot a zero. you mean”t try and keep it below $200k….
Check the Government’s website for the Ministry of Communications and Works’ vision for the BVI by 2023: https://bvi.gov.vg/content/ministry-communication-and-works. All 7 items listed in the Vision to be completed by 2023 are no where in sight, but the end of 2023 is in 4 months! It’s just all talk with very little meaningful action. I have had enough! People we deserve so much better.
WHY JAN AND MAD DONT HAVE THOSE UGLY CHAIRS, UNDER THAT TREE, ACROSS FROM RALPH ONEAL’S GAS STATION REMOVED?…THEY ARE UNSIGHTLY!
Any bets commuters would still stand up in front J&C/ post office
Ant the drivers of those taxis who stop there should be ticketed.
Really? Wtf is wrong with these people who has the authority to make descisions affecting people’s lives? I just don’t get it. Like our leaders are getting more stupid and outlandish every day. Sl**ande and his bunch of fools got to go. They were given a chance but they are not ready.
A proper one is needed eastbound close to the Red Cross/Treasure Isle area and the bus stop should be restored close to the entrance of HLSCC. It is unfair to people who have to catch buses.
Some years ago Rotary donated shed the one by Tresure Isle someone taught it was a drive through the others mash up before Irma take the remaining of them out.The bus driver will still do what they want, that money give to the school’s for teachers to buy school materials to teach the children. This shed thing is nonsense.
A BUS SHED OR A HANG OUT SPOT?
If it ain’t maintained it would become another waist of money project.
Police would have to start issuing tickets for taxi stopping where they not suppose to stop.
