Consultant being sought for VI’s crime summit
The government is seeking a consultant to help draft a national anti-crime strategy as part of preparations for its upcoming crime summit, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has confirmed.
The Premier said the summit will bring together government departments, law enforcement agencies and the wider community to address the causes of crime and create solutions. He explained that the event will look beyond policing to examine education, social support, immigration and customs enforcement.
“This is what we expect to come out of this anti-crime summit — a strategy,” Dr Wheatley stated. “Of course we have what the police are already doing, we have what education is already doing, we have what immigration is already doing, customs already, everybody is doing their part. But what we want to do is come together as a whole society in our individual respective roles and to analyse where are the gaps and have a strategy to address those gaps so that we can better mitigate against crime and persons who are going down the wrong path.”
The Premier explained that the initiative had been taken to the National Security Council and would be treated as a government-wide effort. “What we would hope would come out of this, or what will come out of this I should say, is an anti-crime strategy and a steering group that will seek to implement the recommendations of that strategy,” Wheatley said.
When asked who would prepare the document, the Premier said: “We have a consultant that we will engage to actually write the strategy, who’s going to be involved in the summit, listen to all the presentations, etc.”
He added that the individual has not yet been confirmed. “We have a few options of persons that we’re considering right now,” the Premier said.
Meanwhile, the Premier pushed back against the idea that full employment alone would reduce crime in the territory.
“Crime is a complex thing. I’m not, I’m no criminologist … but I read a lot. It’s very simplistic to say you don’t have crime if you have lots of employment in the country,” he explained. “I believe that crime above all else is a mindset.”
He said the summit would provide a chance for the territory to confront those deeper issues and create a coordinated national response.

Looking forward to never seeing this report.
Not only will we never see it, we will also pay significantly over the odds for it!
A nice little earner for sipping tea and eating cookies while blah blah blah discussing church, employment, poverty, racism ,recidivism single parenting ho hum . Resulting in zero change zero results next consultancy please.
Out of the taxpayers wallet then , instead of spouting righteous rhetoric while committing crimes of omission in your own jobs and knowingly allowing others to enrich themselves to the detriment of the majority of the BVI . Bank of Asia that’s an unfortunate error ,not really a crime I suppose, just a little misunderstanding .We shouldn’t really dig too deep into what really happened after all we’ve got real work to do . Inventing the last 10 years of what the hell the government actually did with its income since 2016 ten years of government accounts didn’t anyone explain if you haven’t got the 10 previous years accounts done your so called budgets for each year following 2016 are just absolute bullsh*t fantasies.
BVI will end up 100 million in debt with nothing to show for it. There is a serious need for vision and focus. Our policy now is all about f..k around and find out.
OK, I’ll do it for $99,999.00…
Arrest people breaking the law and preserve the evidence. When found guilty, keep them in prison. If they do it again, put them under the prison. Stop letting people off based on who they family is. If you break the law, you pay the price. The End.
What more needs to be said?
Finally, we got you CLAUDE.
You don’t need to pay for an expensive consultant to tell you what you already know. Start with the basics. A zero tolerance approach to all crime supported by all people.
I tell you mehson! Natalio is a real colonialist, se what he going do here, he get Vybz Kartel and pay him quarter million USD $3k to help celebrate the crime situation, and bank a Asia scamming us $5 million USD, so that is he create the “situation” and now come with the Solution ” monetized, when he is through just like how Claude scam us in consultant fee and no work, so too these high paid consultants on crime and family and friends building rentals to host the event along with catering services, I say that natalio will be commiting a financial crime against the BVI on a subtle colonial way in the end. And that’s a feel good moment that won’t change a thing, what sweet in a goat mouth sour in he bam bam.this man is really the epitomy of a colonialist that he pretends to dislike, man oh boy he is delighted in traveling to go meet white colonials for his instructions.the better thing to do is to ask for a regiment of auxiliary police to come on and vehicles to do constant patrols to eliminate crime hot spot night and day along with search’s, a good year of auxiliary police patrol and put those monies wasted on parties to project that can create job, and amnesty for guns for a lucrative price, and the UK and USA coast guard patrol the waters, unlike when natalio and Andrew didn’t want that to affect their friends business so they hired a badge. And once these patrol are done on sea and lands for a year we cut down the crime but the government got to inject monies into the economy, not giving Claude and John church, some programs like construction on roads and bridges that people can be employed.if we can take $3k and employ Vybz Kartel straight from our a prison we can for the youth. And bank of Asia $5 million.
There are local born here and resident foreigners here who can be a consultant but they are not good enough despite their knowledge and education.Sad.
He is speaking the truth! Crime is a mindset and The Leader of Government Business and his predecessor in my eyes are considered criminals.
