Cop jumps into bushes after teen brandishes gun during chase

BVI News understands that a 16-year-old boy forced a police officer to jump into nearby bushes earlier this week, after allegedly pulling a firearm on the officer during an attempted burglary in Meyers Estate.

Reports are that the teenager, a resident of Fat Hog’s Bay, was first linked to an incident in which a woman reported someone trying to break into her apartment. The police responded quickly and reportedly met the suspect on a motor scooter.

Highly placed sources told our news centre that he later abandoned it after being confronted by officers. During the pursuit, the young man allegedly brandished a gun and pointed it at the officers, causing one cop to dive into nearby bushes to avoid being shot.

Our sources say no shots were fired, and the juvenile suspect managed to escape.

The following day, it’s understood that the police saw the young man walking along a roadway in the Meyers Estate area. When the cops approached, he attempted to flee but was held and transported to the police station. It’s understood that his mother was called and in her presence, he admitted to both the attempted break-in and pointing the firearm at the officer.

Our sources say he promised to show the police where he hid the firearm and other objects from the incident. They reportedly found clothing and other items but did not find the firearm he pointed at cops. Investigations are reportedly ongoing , but it’s unclear whether the young man remains in custody and whether he will appear in court to answer to any charges related to the incident.

The community has expressed growing concern over an uptick in crime, with recent reports of burglaries, armed robberies, and incidents involving youths carrying weapons. Police officials say they are intensifying patrols in all neighbourhoods to address public safety fears.

They were recruited some years back because the VI Police was not able. They had zero experience with these special imported wonders. The islands from where these cop are recruited are not successful in curtailing crime either…only Trump and China can effectively put at least a shakeup in these cannibals ritualistic destructive performance.

Trial him as an adult and give him the highest maximum sentence possible.

People found with illegal firearms should be sentenced to 20 years MINIMUM. We have to send a message.

    • Keep in mind says:

Knee jerk reactions to lock such malfeasor and throw away the key are understandable, but few are tge things in life that don’t have economic considerations. BVI prison budget is about $4.4 million for about 130 inmates, or about $ 33,000 a year each to keep them incarcerated. So, a 20 years sentence would cost society $ 660,000 in taxes…is that a good investment for a misguided youth? What are the chances he will be reformed during that time?

The problem is that many of these individuals cannot be rehabilitated, which helps explain the high rate of repeat offending. While $33,000 per person per year is a substantial cost, perhaps we can find ways to reduce it: introduce prison-based horticulture and food-production programs so inmates grow more of their own food, shift menus toward simpler options, or expand vocational training to lower long-term costs. At the same time, we must acknowledge that a subset of offenders present a continuing public-safety risk and therefore require secure, long-term confinement rather than early release.

To all of you that is laughing about the police had to take a nose dive in the bushes, I would have done the same damn thing.that is what probably save the police life. They do this nonsense because the police don’t carry guns. Anywhere outside this BVI, the police would have blown this kid away. You do not draw a gun on the police and think you are going to get away with it. They did not find the gun because he pass the gun on to one of his friends. 16 years old his mother got some serious problems ahead with that boy. I have a 16 year old boy and he walk a straight line, 8 o’clock pm he is in the house and that includes Weekends. He want to go to the movies or go out to get something to eat, he is with me or his 25 year old sister. I refuse to let the streets get a hold of my son.

This is not good. But officer i stand to say you did you best considering. Its high time law enforcement is equip to execute their job cant ask them to protect and out they life on the line and have no means of protecting themself. Lets say the teen pulled the trigger then what the officee i sure has kids wife and parents that love him no pay out could bring comfort off bring back the dead. Think about giving the police arms/guns means they will misuse them considering the can face charges like anyone else that commit a crime times are changing give the police the tools necessary to effectively carry out their jobs. 1996 thought you all nothing. How many officers have to get shoot or killed before you do something Mr. Governor. Custom and police needed guns. Service only gun would be a great start.

Bring it back….this is what keep alot of bad boys in line. The bull bud when used in a strategic manner right across their backs would resolve this societal illness. Jail is a useless corrective measure…they go in and come out worst. If there parents and teachers won’t beat them then the police should take wack at their backs.
