Cops target loud-muffler scooters! Six charged, four bikes detained
Six motorists were charged while four scooters and one vehicle were detained during a police operation at the weekend.
A media release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said the operation involved officers from the Road Policing Unit, the Armed Response Unit and from Beat & Patrol.
The team reportedly accosted three persons for prohibited tint, two for having a loud muffler and one for driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle.
“Officers also issued eight tickets; two for driving without seatbelts, four for standing in the tray of a moving truck, one for riding without a helmet and one for not having a front identification plate,” the RVIPF stated.
In the meantime, Police Commissioner Mark Collins is said to have lauded the officers for their persistence over the past weeks in insuring motorists comply with local road traffic laws.
The RVIPF said Collins further reminds persons that operations such as these will continue through the summer months; “particularly targeting scooters with loud mufflers and heavily tinted vehicles”.
“As such, persons are strongly advised to make the necessary modifications to their vehicles to comply with the law. The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force executed several similar operations since the end of April of this year,” the RVIPF stated.

Pointless, his action is the very reason the officers don’t need weapons, they are too trigger-happy.
As we all can see the man poses no threats or resistance, so why the gun is out?

If I was an officer of the law, I could ticket 100 scooter riders a day just standing on the junction of Zion hill road in west end, how come the police are always conveniently stationed in the wrong place at the wrong time? I would prefer anarchy than complete incompetence from our well kitted out f**k wit police force, that can barely read or write.

Stop print these issues, government need to partner with the biking association( if there is one ) and learn how to communicate with the civilians. Its foolish to have a drawn gun or teaser to apprehend a person for tint or loud muffler , simple stupid. How about people using other strategy to accomplish your simply job. Traffic policing is not difficult , the officers attitude alone makes it complicated. Learn to communicate, try it, and you will see the difference. Is your target to take away the bike , put them in a station , take a picture of how unattractive it is to store it, and leave it until it rot. There has to be a better way.
WHY THE POLICE TROUBLING THE PEOPLE ON LOUD SCOOTERS OR SCOOTERS FOR THAT FACT. SCOOTERS COMES WITH THAT KIND OF LOUD PIPE AND I PERSONALLY THINK THAT HAVING A LOUD SCOOTER IS FOR SAFETY. IF PEOPLE WITH SCOOTERS HAVE QUIET PIPES THEN HOW ARE PEOPLE WHO IN REGUALR VEHICLES GONNA KNOW WHEN THEY ARE COMING SO THEY WOULDNT CRASH INTO THEM OR WEN THE SCOOTERS ARE PASSING THROUGH TRAFFIC AND A VEHICLE IS TURNING IN A GAP AT THE SAME TIME. THE LOUD PIPES ARE ON THE SCOOTERS FOR THEIR SAFETY BECAUSE PEOPLE IN THE BVI CAN SOMETIMES BE BAD MINDED AND CAUSE THE DEATH OF THE MOTORISTS AND IN THE END THEY WOULD ALWAYS BLAME A SCOOTER MAN FOR AN ACCIDENT AND THE PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLES NEVER EVER TAKES THE BLAME FOR THE ACCIDENTS THAT THEY ENDED UP BEING IN THE WRONG. SCOOTERS SHOULD BE GIVEN A FAIR CHANCE JUST AS A REGULAR VEHICLE. IM NOT SAYING THAT SOME MOTORISTS ARENT WRONG BUT MOST TIMES THEY ARE AND NOBODY STANDS UP FOR THEM.
