Cornwall allegedly makes ‘credible threat’ in robbery case

Kawa Cornwall was denied bail on Friday after making what prosecutors described as a brazen and credible threat in the presence of police.

“He best not come on my block,” Cornwall reportedly said about the man he allegedly gun-butted and robbed in the Ghetto/Crabbe Lot area of Tortola two weeks ago.

Prosecutors said Cornwall allegedly made the ‘threat’ during a police interview after discovering that his alleged victim had reported him to the cops.

These were the allegations read in the Magistrate’s Court recently when Cornwall appeared for robbery, being armed with an offensive weapon, and common assault.

The 34-year-old accused is yet to plead to the charges.

What prosecutors said happened

Prosecutors alleged that Cornwall and the victim have known each other for more than 25 years and started attending school together when they were five years old.

The court heard that on the afternoon of February 14, the alleged victim bought two pairs of shoes before visiting the Ghetto.

At around 10pm, the alleged unsuspecting victim was outdoors speaking with a woman when he noticed the bag with his shoes had gone missing.

The court heard that he noticed Cornwall who allegedly admitted to having the shoes. Cornwall allegedly said he will not return them.

The prosecution alleged that the man saw Cornwall with a gun but insisted that he wanted his shoes back.

It is alleged that Cornwall then struck him with the firearm and robbed the man of $150.

It is alleged further that the accused cocked his weapon and threatened to harm the man if he told anyone about the incident.

However, the man made a subsequent report to police. He was then taken to hospital for medical treatment, the court heard.

The court heard that police apprehended Cornwall sometime after.

In court, Cornwall denied the allegations; claiming that the phrase ‘He best not come on my block’  was not a threat.

He also said he only gets in trouble with the law for drugs.

“I don’t tief. If they going to lock me up, they lock me up for marijuana,” Cornwall told the court.

He further argued that the allegations are false because he is nearly five years older than the accused so they could not have started school together.

The prosecution confirmed the age difference.

“Everything that man saying is a lie,” said Cornwall, who has been remanded until his next court appearance.
