Court finds Brewley guilty of assaulting ex-lover with bar stool
Mitchell Brewley of Great Mountain was found guilty of battering his ex-lover with a barstool and causing her actual bodily harm.
Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo told the offender that she found the witnesses, including his ex-lover to be “truthful” during their testimony against him.
“She was quite clear in her evidence,” Magistrate DaBreo said, adding that the Crown has proven its case “beyond a reasonable doubt”.
“I find you guilty,” the magistrate then said to the offender, Brewley.
Brewley will be sentenced on October 16.
What the court heard happened
The court heard that police responded to a report in the Fat Hogs Bay-based bar shortly after midnight on February 17 last year.
Upon arrival, the victim claimed that she was beaten by Brewley with a barstool.
She reportedly suffered injuries such as swelling of the legs and a black eye from the reported attack, the court heard.
Sometime later, the accused was arrested and charged.
During a subsequent interview with police, Brewley reportedly told police that he only ‘pushed’ her but denied using a stool to assault her.
