Court orders suspension of driver’s licence

Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards has suspended a motorist’s driver’s licence following reports that he crashed into a perimeter fence at a water plant while driving under the influence of drug and alcohol.

Kevin Small is now facing four charges as a result of that incident.

The Fat Hog’s Bay resident pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drug and alcohol, as well as damaging property.

He however pleaded not guilty to possession of 8.8 grams of marijuana, and driving without due care and attention.

Reports are that, on July 16 last year, police were on mobile patrol on the Blackburn highway when they observed a motor vehicle at a standstill facing the direction of Road Town.

When they approached the said vehicle, the driver drove off at a ‘high speed’ and collided into the fence of a water plant in the area, the court heard.

Despite the crash, the driver did not stop.

Police, using their siren, reportedly signaled the motorist to pull over.

When he complied, police informed him of their suspicion that he was driving while intoxicated.

The law enforcement officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found three packs of marijuana in the glove compartment, as well as an empty dime bag in Small’s pants pocket.

Small denied knowledge of the marijuana allegedly found.

He was then taken into police custody and his blood-alcohol level tested.

The prosecution reported that his blood-alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit.

Small was subsequently charged.

In court, Magistrate Richards offered him $60,000 signed bail, and ordered him to surrender his travel documents.

The senior magistrate also ordered the offender to get drug treatment at the community health centre in Road Town.

He is scheduled to return to court on April 4.
