David Archer is Acting Governor
Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr has been appointed the Acting Governor.
Archer’s appointment took effect last Thursday, May 17.
He is acting in the position until May 26 while Governor Augustus Jaspert is out of the territory.
According to Section 37 of the Virgin Islands Constitution: “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, the Deputy Governor shall, during Her Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”
Meanwhile, Governor Jaspert’s absence comes amid the much talked about Decision March slated for tomorrow, May 24.
The march is being held to protest the UK parliament’s recent order to impose public registers of beneficial ownership on the BVI and other British Overseas Territories.
The march will begin at the Sunday Morning Well in Road Town, into Fleming Street and Waterfront Drive, then culminate at Government House, where the Governor resides.

The gov buss off and left him to deal with the mess

lovely
Shows what the Governor thinks of this stupid waste of time March by the wealthy to keep secretive financial money laundering! He won’t even be there when the small crowd appear at his house!!!
so I understand that the school kids and teachers are now suddenly being forced to march because the B—- and G——— realize there will be a poor turn out….unbelievable the depths of coercion and blatant deception the government will go to! at least they are consistent – if I was inclined I’d march for the Premier to for once “issue a set of audited yearly accounts” – he hasnt !!!! ever!!! and whys that? because he sides with those that are s—– and avoid open t———–…fact.
Money laundering involves banks. BVI is not a banking jurisdiction. Do some research before coming on here trying to sound smart. Would you like if the bank were to publish your account information and for BVInews and other media to have access to it and report on it how they want? You go to the Hospital, Clinic, Bank etc. and expect a level of privacy, are you a criminal? So why can’t a legitimate business person with a BVI Business Company be granted the same basic rights to privacy?
