Digital work permit system for June 2024
Deputy Premier and Labour Minister Lorna Smith said a digital work permit system will be operational by June this year.
Smith told lawmakers the initial phase of implementing a digital platform for work permit processing occurred in 2021. However, she said this pilot project was discontinued because of capacity constraints within the Labour Department.
She explained that with new insights gained from the design and rollout of the original prototype, her ministry procured comprehensive labour management software, along with transition management support services.
Smith said this new software will address workforce management and work permit functions.
According to the Labour Minister, the government reached an agreement with Januvation Solutions, Inc. to provide these services.
She told the House of Assembly that the initial prototype cost $41,000 but explained that the ministry incurred no additional expenses directly related to acquiring this comprehensive labour management system.
“The necessary software maintenance and support services will cost $120,000 annually until the Department of IT has developed sufficient capacity to provide them in-house,” the minister disclosed.
“I would like to underscore the ministry’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the digital platform for work permit processing is not only effective and efficient, but that it’s also capable of meeting the diverse needs of all stakeholders, including employers, employees, and the Department of Labour & Workforce Development,” the Deputy Premier said.
The government contracted Januvation Solutions, Inc. from January to July of this year to ensure a smooth and effective implementation of the labour management system, Smith added.

Yet every gov dept offers the same old, same old.
“The necessary software maintenance and support services will cost $120,000 annually until the Department of IT has developed sufficient capacity to provide them in-house,” the minister disclosed.
😮
wow… that’s a hefty figure. $10k/month. Hope we get some value for money when it rolls out, because that’s the going rate for a “consultant” these days.
might actually be cheaper than hiring additional programmers and support staff
Thats the fees from about 3 professional work permits so not expensive at all. But the saving in man hours waiting in line to process these will be a huge saving for the employeer. Hopefully the renewal process will be and email to the employer would you like to renew this work permit, Yes tick then please pay here and send your staff member with this receipt and collect your new card. Instead of submitting waiting for 3 months, Getting extension or more then finally getting the renewal.
We tried this before and it failed so we can try again.
BVI is like internet explorer.
we always last with the everything.
or was this delay intentional?
You are in Power over a yr now why is everything you want to implement taking this long. I won’t be surprised if you asked for 6 more months to come up with a minimum wage, seems like you are playing games.
Let’s hope the software program is done a little more professionally and user friendly than the one the government used for Covid entry! That was a joke of a system and total embarrassment! That was like some early 2000’s junk!
Made an appointment online to see Labour, received confirmation, arrived before the alloted time to be told the online appointment system isnt working….
