Donovan, Skelton fined $19K for marijuana
Carrot Bay resident, Marley Donovan and Cassini Skelton of West End were fined a combined total of $19,000 on Wednesday, after being caught with more than 100 grams of cannabis.
Magistrate Shawn Innocent imposed the fine on the duo who had previously confessed to possession of a controlled drug.
The court heard that the drugs were found close to a vessel that they were travelling on between Jost Van Dyke and Cane Garden Bay, Tortola on December 30, 2016.
They were each fined $6,500 for the drugs and those fines are to be paid in six months. In default, the accused men will spend six months at Her Majesty’s Prison.
They were also charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, but that matter was later dismissed.
Donovan
Donovan, in the meantime, was separately charged for a similar drug offence. He was charged for being in possession of 20.3 grams of cannabis in Carrot Bay on June 3, last year.
He was fined $6,000. The drug offender has up to six months to pay both fines totalling $12,500 or he will serve 12 months in prison.
Donovan’s two default sentences would run consecutively, meaning one after the other.

So the more weed you have the less your fine will be, 20.3 grams $6000 over 100 grams $6500. Five hundred more.
Do the maths it’s better to be caught with more rather than less.

They are using the 100g as a big headline… neither was charged with 100g. I believe all 3 charges mentioned were for 20 something grams.
@ get less for more. Please know the law before you open your mouth. It doesn’t matter how much you have, you can be fined up to $100,000 or three times the value of the drugs or spend up to 3 years in prison.

This is nonsense!!!!!!!!!! A guy just received a 5yr sentence for molesting his 14yr old daughter and got credit for the 4yrs on remand meaning he will serve a few months in jail now. These youngsters caught wit weed and fined almost $20K. WTF?
Six months? Just serve your time cuz, nah give them no money.
