Don’t get angry, relief not for everyone
Government has said relief supplies coming into the British Virgin Islands is not for everyone, and is asking residents not to harbour ill-feeling if they are bypassed during relief distribution.
Minister of Health and Social Development Ronnie Skelton said relief is for persons classified as ‘vulnerable’.
“It’s very important that those of us who can help ourselves need to do so; so that the government can concentrate in helping those who can’t help themselves. And I know the donor agencies want us to do this. So, if you see us helping your neighbour and not helping you, don’t get angry with us,” Skelton said.
“We have gotten help to help your neighbour and not everybody,” he added.
Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Disaster Management, Sharleen DaBreo, said a recent survey has revealed the elderly, persons with physical challenges, persons with children, and persons with ‘nowhere to go’ as the most vulnerable.
