Dr Dawson hired as consultant for Ministry of Education & Agriculture

Dr Karl Dawson

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries & Agriculture has acquired the services of Dr Karl Dawson as their new consultant to remedy the many weaknesses discovered in the ministry.

The announcement was made via a government-commissioned media release on Thursday.

In the release, portfolio minister Dr Natalio Wheatley said the ministry wanted the experience and knowledge of Dr Dawson to progress its ambitious agenda.

Dr Dawson, who is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration, will be tasked with a number of responsibilities that include assisting with the implementation of the Agriculture and Fisheries Marketing Authority Bill.

His 24-years’ experience at the H Lavity Stoutt Community College and seven years as president of the institution will assist with his task of liaising with the college on the implementation of the Teacher Education Institute.

Dr Dawson will also be providing support on matters of accreditation, mentorship of new leadership, planning, programme development, programme review and succession planning; liaising with the regional and international organisations on scholarship opportunities for Virgin Islanders, especially the education sector; and collaborating with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration to facilitate work readiness training.

His latest position held was at the Anguilla Community College as President from 2017 to 2020. He also serves as the President for Towers Educational Consultants (BVI).

Another crony hired. To be hired in any job or to get a contract or assistance you must have pledged allegiance to the VIP. And they are so bold faced that they tell you this to your face. Look at the what the BVI has come to.

Its a small territory is it wrong for a citizen to vote and be hired by the government they elected? Furthermore no one but him knows who he really voted for.

Are there others who can do it is the question. That’s a whole lot of things there that other experts in the BVi can do.

OJ ran for NDP and lost and was hired by government twice, Marlon was a part of government with a contract with FSC. Dr. Smith gave his wife a contract while he was Premier,CSC ran as a member of NDP, he lost and was given a consultancy contract, then hired as a head of ports. Lloyd Black lost and was hired by Ports Authority. There are other examples. I wouldn’t say that it’s corruption. The ruling government has the power to choose who they want. The only one that’s tricky is a Premier giving his wife a contract even though she maybe qualified because that’s too close to home. You can’t separate that relationship from the selection process.

Did he pay for his education at FSU or is he another that was dropped out of his mommy in San Juan or St Thomas. Then claimed he didn’t have any money and was given scholarships. I demand to know if he has US citizenship and if so has he has been paying US income tax. Enough of the Belongers freeloading on the US.

  4. Craziness says:

Why haven’t they said the contract amount? Another reward for a crony. These guys just don’t know when to stop. In the midst of a COI you hire a former candidate of the party. You will keep the figure about $1 below the price for tendering so that you could hire him. In the midst of COI where the country is being called corrupt. A no-bid contract given to a known political aid. Tell me that Andrew Fahie and the VIP are not crazy people.

The story goes he was hired “as their new consultant to remedy the many weaknesses discovered in the ministry.”…Now give me a break!!. How much d@#n weaknesses this d@#n VIP could find?. Just a bunch of excuses to bring in their cronies and spend a wash of money. Same goes for the statutory Boards. Making up a bunch of lies on the poor Departments just to get in there, undo what NDP did, and line their peoples’ pockets with monies. SMH.
The people of the BVI are not stupid. I must say though, Dr. Dawson is a good man.

Qualified person in Education hired as shadow Minister as the person assigned as Minister is way out of his league and has no idea WTF he is doing. Hopefully Dawson can bring some common sense and real action to the Ministry and FAST!

Why hire a consultant. If the Minister can not do his job with the help of the employees…. Get rid of them and get someone who can. Just one ridiculous move after another. When and where is it going to stop!

  11. Too much says:

Why has The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs been combined with Fisheries & Agriculture ….. there is no overlap or connection – re separate them and manage them properly. Jokes

  12. Lilly says:

Perhaps he should have been the minister for education, but that unfortunately did not materialize. He will do very well as a consultant in the subjects concerned if he is listened to.

  14. Rubber Duck says:

There is sometimes some justification in hiring consultants. For example when you don’t want them to be involved or personally related to those who work permanently in an enterprise. Or where they bring some outside expertise not available internally.

That would not seem to be the case here.

  17. Technology says:

Here is some free consultation advice. The ministry needs an IT Unit with SPECIALIZED it professional to get the ministry and all schools equipped with technology of this era that is on par with the rest of the world so that we can prepare the citizens and future leaders of this country for the inevitable future.

Simultaneously, Free training for a small competent group 10 persons or so whose job it would be to do continuous research and implementation of digital trending learning methods and to conduct mandatory training for all educators.

  18. Who Lives it Knows it. says:

Mr, Premier,, Mr Deputy Premier, Mr Health Minister, Mr Minister of education, CEO of education, Mr. Dawson, please note with extreme concern, and read as a warning:

Many professionals and children/students are noww suffering and will fall through the cracks, due to lack attention and intervention.

The grave issue is MENTAL HEALTH needs.

The extended lock down has had a tremendous impact on the mental health of many, children, teachers and adults alike.

Mr Dawson, this issue should and must be your first task to address, tackle and fix. If nothing is done, we will see the effects very soon and for decades to come.

The issues are real; the suffering is intense and widespread. The consequences are dire.
