Dr Pickering noncommittal on contesting next election

Dr Kedrick Pickering

Former Deputy Premier, Dr Kedrick Pickering has not yet decided whether to present himself as a candidate for the next general elections constitutionally due in February 2023.

The former legislator, who also served as Minister for Natural Resources and Labour in the former governing National Democratic Party (NDP) administration, fielded questions on the issue while appearing as a guest on the Honestly Speaking radio show yesterday.

Questioned by host, Pastor Claude Skelton Cline about his intention to run, Dr Pickering said: “I haven’t gotten down that part of the road yet and when I get to that bridge, I will cross it. I’m neither in nor out. I’ll see what the time brings.”

Returning to NDP?

Dr Pickering was equally evasive about whether he would return as a candidate for the NDP after making a run as an independent candidate at the previous polls.

“Whenever we get to whatever bridges have to be crossed, we will cross them, Pastor. I will cross no bridge before I get to that bridge,” he told Skelton Cline.

The former Seventh District Representative, who served in that capacity for more than twenty years, however, insisted he still had something to offer his country in various capacities.

“I’m happy to do what I can to help my country. I will never run away from the responsibility of helping my country. It doesn’t have to be in politics,” the former legislator said.

Please remain non committal. You have nothing to offer the BVI. Stay with your rich, white friends that you said we are jealous that you have. I cannot point to one thing that you have done to help this country and everyday I have to pass that fiasco at brandywine Bay that you called a beach after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. So please, for the sake of the country remain non committal.

He missing that Government money and clout. He ain’t no use to his rich white friends without money and or authority. You had your time, you did nothing for over 2 decades, step aside now.

All these men past 50 in Tortola trying and spending to stay relevant, they think that money goin buy them youth or relevancy. They stay buying things to stay in the gossip. That’s really what they want, to be talked about and then get upset when they are.?

      • Correction says:

I firmly believe that up to 60 years old serving is good. After that go and enjoy your retirement(although past 60 has served well too). Persons in their 50s are still young and if anyone comes with experience that is even better.

  2. Thoughts says:

You got to be an idiot. Myron is the worst of all and Ronnie as old as he is can’t control his temper.

It is because of them the NDP went to the dogs.

Both were hungry and still hungry for power. Leave them OUT!

I am not regurgitating or recycling any old politicians. What progress do we expect to make with the same people we were unhappy with a few years ago? We really need to wise up as voters and stop voting on emotions.

Dr. Pickering is not for the people. Any body who cannot see that something wrong with them. He like the position and the power so he could hang with his big friends and fly all over the world on our dime. This man is not genuine. He was the minister for labour and where had more unemployed people than his own district and he wouldn’t do nothing to help them. All what happen is he ain’t getting no more invitation to go Oil nut Bay and he miss it. Tell me one thing this man do to move our country forward. Even sharks he tell us we cannot eat because Branson want to protect them. Tell that man get from here.

we dont need to be eating sharks though. It would hurt anyones heart to see them slaughtered and thrown out. Its senseless cruelty that screws up the environment in the end.

      • Dumb says:

Shark eating is a part of our culture. They aren’t butchered any different than chicken or goat or tune or Mahi Mahi. And nothing is tossed out when we catch a shark. We eat the whole shark.

So stop spreading lies and misinformation.

      • @uh says:

But them sharks could eat we! Get from here please

Any time the NDP bring him back with them I will not be supporting them. It is time for him to give a chance to someone else. He had that seat for 20 years and he did not do a good job in my opinion. He need to work with a younger person to fill the position. Why these older man don’t give the younger people a chance. He got to making 65 or something. Its power they like so much?

  16. Lukewarm says:

Lukewarm water is the worst thing to put in your system. And that’s how the Doc. is, in my book.

  17. Hmmm says:

Everybody has a strong opinion, yet in the last election polls the majority went and did the worse thing that these islands needed, voted in a group of jokers. When voted for leaders, you have to first choose the leader, the front man. He decides where we go as a country.

Me, personally, I also have my strong opinions, and they are after sitting quietly and looking around, Hon. Skelton is our best bet for leader of this country for the next two terms. Temper and all, he is a doer and can make decisions unilaterally and is futuristic in his thinking.
What he needs is a group of energetic, mostly new, as Mitch and Shaina are keepers in my book, and some other new, energetic persons who love their country.

I am too of the opinion that loving your country and then just treading water when you get an opportunity to serve is not enough, and that is what Doc did. I am sure he did the best he could for his District. I love him to pieces, but serving one’s country is hard work. We have to think this thing over carefully and do the right thing next election. Please, people, vote for the country at large, not for your own personal interests because once the country falls all you selfish ones will be buried first as no one will reach a hand to help you then.

Mr. or Mrs. PVIM, but we know that people in this country stupidy. We don’t think so. You got what you vote for. Not one of you anti-PVIM’s or anti-NDP can say that you made the best decision for this country last election. So as CSC would say, go sit down somewhere. The likes of BS and PL are now running this country. One doesn’t even live here and the other, well, hmm not even going to say it. But her bread is buttered already.

  19. Great interview by CSC.. says:

I listen to the interview CSC did an excellent Job..Kedrick is a very stubborn guy from young. So when the more experience and business minded guys in cabinet try to guide him into a better and cheaper way to get the Airport done. He refused to listen and take advice..So they refused to support him…He needs to stay out and help from the outside. Then why is he not advising Andrew on a better way to do things.?
