Drugs found in container was over 70 kilos!

The BVIPA’s cargo facility in Port Purcell, Tortola.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed that His Majesty’s Customs intercepted 71.84 kilograms of marijuana during a routine container search at Port Purcell on Tuesday, December 10.

According to the RVIPF, the seized drugs carry an estimated street value of $718,400.

“This is a significant win in the Customs Department’s fight against drug trafficking. It also sends a strong message to those who seek to profit from the importation of illicit drugs,” Acting Commissioner Clinton Romney stated.

Romney reiterated the department’s dedication to securing the territory’s borders and safeguarding communities from the effects of illegal substances.

The Customs Department has urged the public to assist both Customs and the RVIPF by reporting any information that could aid ongoing investigations.

This bust follows a similar interception in December 2023 when more than seven pounds of marijuana were seized during routine checks at a local shipping company.

Despite these enforcement efforts, some residents have raised concerns about the territory’s porous borders and limited resources for monitoring ports of entry, suggesting that larger quantities of drugs may evade detection.

No arrests have been reported in connection with the latest seizure.

  4. Who was the intended receiver? Who was the sender? Where was the package sent from? says:

    All very important questions.

Clearly there has to be a shipping paper trail here. A person cannot just ship a package without filling out some sort of paperwork.

While it’s a very good thing that the RVIPF intercepted this shipment, all the dots need to be connected here to find the culprits. I’m sure the RVIPF is already attempting to.

IMO, despite the former Ports Director and the former Premier are locked up in the U.S, looks like they have been replaced. The show must apparently go on.

Who ever the rat(s) are needs to baited and trapped. A keen eye needs to be focused on Ports. Obviously the rats are exploiting a hole.

Weed? We talking about weed as a major bust? 70 kilos is roughly 150 pounds. Depending on the strain of the herb, maybe $2500 a pound. This load isn’t more than $350k worth of aging weed. That the rest of the world has legalized. We hear bragging about some darned grass like we did something great! Chuuuupes

  9. Unbelievable says:

So many places profit off marijuana recreationally and medically, it’s an absolute atrocity to do this to your own country. The taxes levied from this can help advance infrastructure and other things the territory needs. The government strongly needs to deep diver into what an asset this could be.

That cant be good stuff. That is pure greed. Rejected dispensary weed, pesticides from the south, or filler cbd mids either way better it off the street. Illegal weed is a con man game these days. Regs compressed with the seeds n stems of 10 years ago was better than the new crap called mids that is everywhere.

  13. Bookeeper says:

Reading words like “Street value” and “illicit trade” and “$700,000” all I can think of is what a terrific waste of lost tax revenue. For every kilogram sold to happy customers, how much could the government be bringing in as tax? It would also take the revenue away from the criminals, which would drastically reduce their power and influence. We all win!
