East End fire claims one life

The police have confirmed that a body was pulled from under several layers of debris inside the home gutted by fire on June 11 in the Red Bay area of East End.

The identity of the body has not been determined but reports are that the deceased was a senior citizen. It’s not clear whether he was a member of the house that was gutted.

Reports reaching our news centre are that an occupant of the house called the police when the fire was identified. When the cops arrived on the scene, firemen were already working to put out the blaze.

It’s understood that the fire did not spread beyond the affected house but caused minor damage to the neighbouring property.

Investigations are ongoing but the authorities have not released the cause of the fire.
