Education Minister slams ‘misinformation’

Education Minister Sharie deCastro

Education Minister Sharie deCastro has asked Territorial At-Large Representative Stacy “Budda” Mather to “stop suggesting inaccuracies” and make himself available for meaningful discussions with her ministry.

DeCastro’s challenge follows a recent interview that Mather did with Cindy Rosan’s Cut Deep talk show, where he stated that the Education Minister has not been willing to meet with him for meaningful discussions, despite his expertise in education and youth development.

Just days after that, deCastro used the Question and Answer segment in the May 3 House of Assembly sitting to challenge Mather’s claims, saying her ministry is waiting on the At-Large representative to confirm his availability for discussions.

“Despite recent statements suggesting otherwise, I want to clarify that I, along with senior officials in the Ministry, are eager to meet with the honourable member (Mather) to discuss matters about education and youth development,” deCastro stated. “Contrary to misinformation, I have expressed a willingness to accommodate the member’s schedule and engage in constructive dialogue.

The Minister went on to give receipts, saying that Mather cancelled a meeting that was previously scheduled and despite attempts, her ministry has been unable to confirm a new meeting due to Mather’s lack of response.

“Let me take this opportunity to kindly request that the member (Mather) refrain from suggesting inaccuracies and inform the ministry of his availability to offer his expertise by engaging in productive discussions that will benefit education and youth development,” deCastro said as she stared directly at Mather.

In response, Mather rose and said, “I want to thank the minister for answering the question and for acknowledging the additional comments she made that were not part of the question but I appreciate them. In this honourable House, I say that the Minister and I will have conversations.”

Nothing further was said on the matter.

Mather – a first-time legislator – has been publicly calling out his colleagues for behaviours that hinder political progress in the territory. He has bemoaned the “power hungry” attitude of legislators saying this is preventing them from working together for the good of the nation.

She was right to put Mather in his place. He is deceptive and untruthful. He bad mouths people even his same PVIM colleagues for his benefit. He pretends not to be power hungry but he is most power hungry on of all.

Obviously you dont know Stacy Mather, so you need to stop posting garbage. Mather worked for Jarecki, he think he just decided to run for Politics, no he was sick and tired sitting back and doing nothing, like most of us BVIslanders. He has always been a go getter, so stop chatting nonsense

If Hon. Mather could lie about something like this then I can’t trust him. You could hide from a thief but not from a liar. He had no defense at all when he was confronted with the truth. So he goes on a talk show and knowingly tell l**s. This is very troubling to me.

    Please all,

Let’s not forget that the education minister stole covid money from we the people and gave it to her boyfriend (who did not face financial hardship).

She has not apologized for this nor has she given the money back.

She is co**upt, and has no integrity.

People of this character should not be responsible for the education of our future generation.

If it is indeed the case that Hon. Mather lied, this would be a huge let down.
