Education Ministry still exploring options for ASPS students
Education Minister Sharie DeCastro said her Ministry continues to address the issue of an alternative location to house displaced students of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School (ASPS).
The school was closed abruptly just before the end of the last school term after a report showed that its structural integrity was seriously compromised.
“Currently, we are exploring options for temporarily housing students and we will make an announcement shortly,” Minister DeCastro told the House of Assembly (HOA) yesterday.
DeCastro said the ministry must do everything possible to ensure the safety of faculty and students at schools and said this sentiment goes for all schools throughout the BVI.
Minister DeCastro further shared that remedial works have already begun with schools across the territory in anticipation of the reopening of schools for the next school year.
Almost there
In the meantime, works have continued at the territory’s main high school, with the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) Redevelopment Project being some 70 percent complete, DeCastro said.
The Recovery & Development Agency (RDA) is currently constructing the buildings to house the senior division of the school and came in for high praise from the minister for their commitment and efforts in executing the project.
According to the minister, outstanding works to be completed are mainly finishes, including some rendering, finishing of floors, installation of windows and doors, bathroom facilities, and external works including a parking lot and road infrastructure.

They will wait until the week before school opens
First the engineers need to outline what work must be done.
Next the tender has to be written up.
Then a month before tenders accepted.
Then a month before a contract signed.
Finally work starts for a few months until the treasury fails to make a milestone payment to the contractor, at which time all work stops until the cheques arrive.
So…. 2024 is my bet.
When is Rankin coming HOME?
the works was to already started on the school this is not looking good on the Ministry or the Department of Education. Micro Management
