EE/LL sewerage project a major priority for us — Deputy Premier
Deputy Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said persons should expect to see more work being done on the East End/Long Look project starting very soon.
His comment comes in the wake of claims by Opposition Leader Marlon Penn that nothing was being to move the project forward.
Dr Wheatley said although COVID-19 has impacted some of the work on the project, Works Minister Kye Rymer continues to push the project forward.
The Deputy Premier argued that it was his administration that recouped most of the funding for the project from the BVI Port Authority after $8 million had been redirected to the cruise pier project under the former National Democratic Party (NDP) administration.
He said while the NDP started to repay some of the monies during its time as the governing party, this was only a small amount.
“Most of it was repaid during this administration because the East End/Long Look sewerage project is a major priority for us,” Dr Wheatley said on the Virgin Islands Party’s Let’s Talk radio show.
Meanwhile, Works Minister Kye Rymer said while there have been delays in the project, works continued ‘in-house’ to move it forward.
Rymer said officials have been working within the realms of the COVID-19 pandemic to have the job completed.
“We have just signed an additional contract a few weeks ago where the contractor should resume work to continue to lay the pipes,” Rymer stated.
Earlier this week, Penn said the VIP government has had three years to work on the project but has made no progress during their time in office, even though monies have been put back into the consolidated fund for the project.

Hear this froth foaming at the mouth again. The biggest political disappointment ever. Full of talk and can’t do anything. Worse performance of a minister in about 20 years.
So, are they planning on laying the pipes (again) before repairing the Paraquita Sewerage Treatment Plant? They need to repair the plant and them work their way out… unbelievable…
‘Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.’ George Bernard Shaw’s quote is as accurate today as it was in 1903. We have elected two teachers with teaching skills, and have expected them to be able to do the job of running a country without any training. This is our fault! We must elect leaders with management skills and experience running a complex organization, not politicians only capable of spouting what they think their supporters want to hear!!
The biggest mistake the BVI has ever made was to elect this Andrew Fahie government, please let us not do it again our BVI depends on not making the same mistake.
So they conveniently waited until months before election to start laying pipes? Those days of fooling people long gone
It must be election time coming soon. Or is it Xmas around the corner? Dem crawling pun media daily now like snake crawling out ah flooded hole….
Hope the people have woken up…
Anyone in East end/long look who has to take a dump/pee are invited to drop their pants at the Pier Park. That’s where their sewer system is.
HE IS A BIG YOUTH
from this intellectually-challenged spokesman/puppet. The VIP has been trousering taxpayers money for more than 20 years under the heading of “sewage treatment”. Just ask Carvin.
When are they finishing up he road in Anegada?
Yes Mr Minister Sh-t is your Major Priority as usual
no that election is coming up the government bring out all kind of projects to make it look like they doing things waste of time and people is going to get fool.
The things that you are continuing before your time, during your time and will finish after your time. Tell us what else you have to add. Nothing. You have not done well. The claim about too much on your plate would also not work. Not even 1 finished thing prior to your final year?
