Elderly woman injured in two-vehicle collision

Scene from yesterdays vehicular collission.

A female senior citizen was seriously injured in a vehicular accident that occurred sometime around 4 pm yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of the Queen Elizabeth II Park on Tortola.

Circumstances surrounding the accident are not immediately clear and the full extent of the woman’s injuries are currently unknown.

According to reports, two vehicles — an SUV and a car — were travelling in opposite directions along the roadway just opposite Government House when the collision occurred.

The SUV was forced on its side as a result of the impact, trapping the victim in the process and seriously injuring one of her arms. It is not immediately clear how many other persons were injured as a result of the impact.

It is understood that at least two persons were transported to the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital as a result of injuries suffered from the accident.

Police officers, members of the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services, and first responders from the BVI Health Services Authority visited the scene of the accident and assisted the injured persons.

The area surrounding the accident was cordoned off after the two vehicles blocked the roadway and this caused traffic to be rerouted for some time afterwards.

  1. Fix the Roads! says:

Fix the Roads! I pray for the safety of everyone on the roads and I pray for the quick healing of the injured and comfort of the affected friends and families. But for the terrible condition of the roads, the jeep could not possibly tip on its side to cause the injuries. Is this a negligence law suit against the government? Lord hear our prayers. People are being hurt everyday because of the roads and the government is doing nothing about it. They busy focusing on a single plane and a single party.

The Action Man’s idiotic paving of the road around the manhole covers creating multiple deep depressions makes the average driver move over into parts of the other oncoming lane or causing one to come very tight to the sidewalk.

The lack of planning and common sense in this place is frightening! Simple goosenecks onto the current manholes to raise the covers a couple inches and have them level with the current paving would have made sense! But not here! Quick pre-election gimmick that leads to a lifelong symbol of half assed efforts that define the ineptitude of those we elect to look out for our best interests.

First, I pray that the accident victims pull through and is returned to optimum health. I especially pray for the senior victim.

I am not sure if speeding was the cause of this accident, but I truly wonder if accidents like this would make the crazy drivers drive more carefully. They drive right up under you, pass on corners, and basically driving too fast on our terrible roads. The right hand drivers basically have a very difficult time staying on their side.
I always tell people, you can’t get their early if you leave home late. So get there in one piece and save the life of another driver by being careful. If there is no one else on the road, yes, you can drive a little faster while staying in your lane and at a pace that you can handle your vehicle. But even in America with their six lane highways, if you leave late, you got to deal with traffic.

Please drive responsibly and have respect for others on the roadways.

  6. Law says:

Motorists are required by law to keep as far left as possible but on that stretch of road traffic coming into town mostly occupy the far right of their lane to avoid the dips. Most of which are left hand drive vehicles so they have no excuse whatsoever. Each one is guilty of reckless driving, but how many times have I seen police driving the same way? smh
