ESHS bans scooters after major fracas at school

The Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) has now implemented a ban on scooters, warning that students will no longer be allowed to arrive on campus using that mode of transportation.

While it is not immediately clear whether the ban only applies to students of the school, the new measure was instituted after officials at the school dealt with a serious disturbance involving several students and other unknown persons who arrived on the campus.

Principal Vanessa Garraway said the incident stemmed from an earlier one in the home community of the persons involved.

“A fighter left the campus without permission and returned with siblings, who illegally entered the compound. The school immediately took action and called the police who were present upon their return to prevent further disturbances,” Garraway explained.

The Principal added: “As a result of this and other incidents, scooters are no longer allowed on our campus. Parents, please make alternate arrangements for your child to come to school or for parking elsewhere.”

Garraway said the safety and well-being of students remain the school’s top priority and assured parents that there will be school today.

She further disclosed that “all involved students have been reprimanded” while announcing that students who were deeply affected by the incident may seek out the school’s counsellors.

“There were some students who may have suffered anxiety and/or trauma during this incident. Our counsellors are available for any of our children who require assistance,” the Principal stated. “You are welcome to contact the school to report any such need for your child.”
