British Billionaire Richard Branson formally opened two new luxury properties on one of his two private islands in the BVI on Friday, October 1.

Branson officially opened ‘the Oasis Estate’ and ‘the Point Estate’ for guests on Moskito Island. The island is Branson’s second private getaway in the BVI after Necker Island.

The Oasis Estate is located on the peak of Moskito Island and extends across 17,500 square feet with a 360-degree view of the Caribbean Sea. Meanwhile, the Point Estate is located to the southwest of the island and covers 16,000 square feet.

Hefty rent rates

Unlike its sister island, Necker, the estates on Moskito are available for individual renting. Stay at luxurious properties comes with a hefty price tag.

The rates for Point Estate, for up to 10 guests with a minimum of four nights start at $17,500 per night while the Oasis Estate starts at $19,000 per night.

According to Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Island Limited, Jon Brown, Moskito is the ‘newest jewel of the Caribbean’. He described it as a one-of-a-kind escape where guests can enjoy stunning and unspoilt surroundings in a convenient and private home.

Extensive attention for the BVI

The opening of the two private villas has been covered extensively in international media and it might indicate an even further turnaround for the BVI tourism industry.

The coronavirus pandemic and its ensuing restrictions have severely impacted the arrival of tourists in the region. This has impacted the economy as it is a key contributor to the gross domestic product of the territory.

However, with the positive coverage of the islands and government’s successful efforts to catch peak season for cruise tourism, it is anticipated that the territory might see an uptick in tourist arrival.

the only place you can see the beauty is from above, on land is pure bush and trees blocking all the views now..

  3. BVI Man says:

The name of the island is “Mosquito Island” not “Moskito”. Are we allowing private individuals to change the names of places in our community? This was attempted many years ago with Scrub Island, but the Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal stopped it, because he knew where it could lead. Unfortunately, nowadays nobody cares about history, only interested in curry favour to the people with the money.

      I appreciate your sentiment.
Felt the same way you do but gave it further thought in this instance,
For commercial reasons, the name ” mosquito” is a deterrent as one would assume the name to be . descriptive. Mosquitos are far from a welcoming and can be deadly.
Appreciate Mr Branson for keeping the name even if it is phonectically..

  6. Another way to lock us out of private beaches says:

Hopefully this will not mean we can not go to the beach on the west end of Moskito. This was supposed to be open to the public with a public bar as per the public meeting when Sir Ricard bought the island.

Love it..This is how to build UP with the appropriate expats and investnents.

  9. Bug spray says:

There is a definite reason this island was named Mosquito four hundred years ago. That reason is alive and biting today.

  10. Tourism dollars says:

The people who stay at the Branson resorts, are not contributing to the tourism dollars. Are they going out to restaurants and bars on sister islands? Are they buying tshirts and other items? Are they going diving with one of our dive companies? Not sure how much of their stay is contributing to the economy of the BVI. Let us no be fooled.

Positive publicity, press in the Global market about the VI is worth millions
Property value is enhanced. Upscale tourists and expats and investments are enticed.
Growth with a quality demographic, with ability to add positively is enabled.
The BVI needs to be more than a depository of the Caribbean’s tired poor miserly and misery.
Look around. We sinking and we stinking.

What ever happened to that public bar/restaurant that was promised when Sir Richard bought the island. Back then it was supposed to be a Eco-Frendly Resort and conference center…then 2008 happened and he decided to sell lots to his billionaire friends for $8 million a crack (bought island for $22 million, sell 8 lot x $8 million = $36 million). Then kick off all them ugly local people and replace them with cute white blondes with UK accents!
This is not something we should celebrate. More old school colonial crap that is locking local people out and blocking beach and water access. Can we at least shut down some of the tax breaks for this swindle? These owners did not even pay transfer tax, and get duty free shipping (while the rest of us chumps foot the bill and get asked ‘please respect the guests privacy and leave the beach’)
Stop selling islands and access to these leaches. They do not have your best interests in their thoughts….just looking for that next billion.
