Fahie’s drug trial reset for another two weeks

Disgraced former Premier, Andrew Fahie

The drug and money laundering trial for former premier Andrew Fahie has been pushed back by another two weeks.

Fahie, who faces charges of drug smuggling, money laundering and racketeering before a Miami court, has now had his trial moved to January 22, 2024.

A paperless order issued by Judge Kathleen Williams showed that the trial was moved to allow for hearings from the prosecution and defence over several motions that were filed in recent weeks.

Justice Williams will hear arguments from both sides about introducing foreign law jury instructions and expert witnesses into the trial, the issue of hearsay testimony, a possible entrapment defence, and other matters that recently arose.

Fahie’s defence attorney, Theresa Van Vliet, objected to what she described as the prosecution’s ‘eleventh-hour’ motions that were filed just three weeks before the trial was expected to commence and asked that the court dismiss them.

Van Vliet contended at the time that the motions raised crucial issues for the first time, including the intention to present expert testimony and seek a jury instruction on foreign law in one instance.

Fahie was nabbed along with his co-defendant, former BVI Ports Director Oleanvine Maynard in Miami in April 2022 after he allegedly conspired with Maynard and her son, Kadeem Maynard and agreed to allow large amounts of cocaine to pass through BVI’s ports.

The illicit scheme was part of a multi-million dollar deal Fahie allegedly made with an informant of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), who was posing as a drug trafficker at the time.

Kadeem was recently sentenced to 57 months in prison after accepting a plea deal for his role. His mother, Oleanvine has also accepted a plea deal and is expected to be the prosecution’s main witness once the trial commences.

The former Premier is facing possible life imprisonment if convicted on the charges brought against him by the United States government and has been confined to his daughters’ home in Miami, Florida as part of his $1 million bond conditions.

@Senegal Man. Clearly. You are not operating on all cylinders.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I think you are going to have to wait a lot more time for him to return and for you to collect any money he alleged owes you.

Nevertheless, you can keep hope alive that you will be able to collect monies owed some day unless you can whip up some Senegalese spirits and make things happen sooner.

Meanwhile thanks for my first morning laugh.

It shows how most of you are so brainwashed. The people who are the only white magic workers are the same colonial masters. They have been using it for years to do their wicked deeds to all who they want to enslave and destroy. Even now they have them among us and paying them as consultants. You all better wake up and stop being fooled by them.

        @local,

Sounds like you really thinking this is a two hour movie. Except for the lazy boy you need to go shopping again. One box of popcorn? A six pack of beers? Get serious!! If this trial
comes to pass, we’ll be more looking at a series, so please head back to the supermarket to stock up.

Nothing happening? That says it all. Nothing happens when there is no reading, only darkness of the mind spreads its tentacles. It clearly demonstrates the total lack of concern for anyone or anywhere, in a huge world. It is folks like you who don’t even know a world exists beyond 11X20 miles. AND those like you, all over the world who are complicit in causing confusion have greatly contributed to the war we see. Don’t blame aliens, or dragons or some sort of devil. It is humankind who is not kind.

    • @smh says:

it is not jokey, this is exactly how a prosecution effectively runs their show.

Make sure get all the funny business, stalling tactics, loopholes and “alternative truths” out of the way before the start of the trial so that we dont have a repeat of the p@@pyshow session that was HC/Wiggy/CSC COI Testimonies.

      • help me understand.... says:

The introduction of last-minute evidence by the prosecution, particularly in a case that initially seemed indisputable, appears to convey an air of desperation and uncertainty on their part. I seek clarification on how such a strategy aligns with the principles of “effective prosecution”.
Jury trials can be wildly unpredictable .Anyone thinking this is a slam dunk needs to reconsider . This is by no means an open and shut case .

The prosecution has the duty to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. A good defence attorney will muddy the water enough that an obviously guity person is freed (think OJ Simpson.)

Its is not black and white, how much evidence they have, ect. Beyond a reasonable doubt is a high bar to meet. Anything they can do short of illegal activities to keep the defence one step behind, they will do.

  3. Observer says:

I really wish he would just plead guilty and get it over with if only to save the whole country further embarrassment. These last minute motions by the prosecution team says though that they also didn’t think he would go to trial based on what they consider to be overwhelmingly evidence against him. Now that it seems like he is going to gamble with a trial, which I predict will turn out badly for him, they are trying to put all their proverbial ducks in a row.

Either way, I am so tired of reading about him in the international press not to mention the embarrassment every time. Honestly just wish he would do everyone a favor including himself and own up to his misdeeds and accept the consequences. He has brought more shame to the BVI than anyone and anything else in modern history and it’s time that he just goes away…literally!

I agree with most of what you wrote there with an important exception:

What has occurred here and is transpiring with Head Coach is due to his own personal failings. I will never accept his personal failings as my own, nor should the country.

His doing is his doing, and his shame is his shame. It is not mine nor those of us here in the BVI who had nothing to do with this mess and live lawfully.

Surely, this saga stains the reputation of the country in an unprecedented and historical way, and that cannot be overlooked.

However, in some ways it can prove beneficial as a warning to would be Head Coaches’ that you are NOT immune to prosecution should they run afoul of the laws.

In my view based on my historical knowledge, Head Coach is NOT the first one of our leaders who has been suspected of illicit acts. He just has the distinction now of being the first to have gotten caught, and is now about to face consequences.

Others will get caught in time as well be them politicians or otherwise because the lure for quick money is all too tempting for some.

The drug lords in Columbia and Mexico already has their footprints all over this country, and there will always be someone who will assume the risk of running drugs for a quick buck.

So, I personally bear no shame for anyone who get caught up in these kind of situations, and neither should the country. Quite frankly, they deserve whatever comes their way.

If these allegations prove true, the country should be happy that they were caught and will be punished as oppose to feeling shame. So count me out of the shame box.

Let me share an important lessons from poverty:

If people would only LIVE WITHIN THEIR MEANS, or another way of saying this: DONT TRY TO PLACE YOUR HAT WHERE IT CANNOT REACH, they would not be in these kinds of predicaments.

Head Coach is in this mess today in my view because of his own greed, narcissism, untrustworthiness, and enablers.

He defiled and dishonored the office of the Premier in my view, and this country should be happy he is being held to account for his alleged actions, something that would have never happen here in the BVI because of the nature of our society.

So, no tears are being shed here on my part. My eyes are as dry as the Sahara desert. I think he was definitely set up with a coordinated effort between the UK and the US, but a mouse cannot be caught if they do not willingly enter the trap.

      Let justice reign.

    • why isnt he entitled to due process? says:

While it may be tempting to disregard due process until one personally requires it, it is crucial to remember that such entitlement extends beyond criminal matters. The individual in question is entitled to a robust defense.
Additionally, clarification is sought on the specific international press references, as the assertion that this matter is extensively covered in the nightly news in the United States may be a misconception. The news cycle is brief, and the perceived significance of this case in the US is overstated.

…The drew will be back in BVI sooner than many think. It’s not about what you think you know, it’s what’s proven under the Laws and in the Court of Law! This Defense Lawyer was a former Prosecutor and a very good one at that so she knows exactly what’s going on. Keep your eyes on this one….I remember when West Bank got held by the US Feds everyone said he is gone for good. Isn’t he up the hill living his best life all now?

I wonder what Maynard’s new sentencing date will be now? Meantime, she has a few weeks to continue praying he cuts a plea deal, avoiding a trial altogether and her being spared having to testify against her ‘a lil crook sometimes’ boss.
