Fahie’s sentencing date pushed back after request for more time
Theresa Van Vliet, the attorney for convicted former Premier Andrew Fahie, asked a Miami court to set a later sentencing date for Fahie because of a conflict with a paid vacation she had already booked.
In an unopposed motion to the court, Van Vliet also cited the need for more time to finalise potential objections to the pre-sentencing report and requested that the date be moved from April 29 to a date in late June instead.
Yesterday, Judge Kathleen Williams granted the motion and agreed to reset the sentencing hearing for June 25.
Fahie was convicted on charges of conspiring to import cocaine and related money-laundering and racketeering charges after his trial culminated on February 8 in a unanimous guilty verdict.
Fahie was nabbed with Oleanvine Maynard, the former Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, in Miami after the two conspired with Maynard’s son Kadeem Stephan Maynard.
The trio agreed to allow large amounts of cocaine to pass through the BVI’s ports as part of a multi-million dollar deal the trio made with an informant of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), who was posing as a drug trafficker at the time.
The aftermath of Fahie’s verdict has been anything but straightforward, with a troubling development that saw two jurors express second thoughts about their decision. The issue cast doubt over the unanimous verdict and ignited debates on the sanctity of jury deliberations and the finality of their decisions.
The sentencing for Oleanvine Maynard had been postponed but for different reasons.
Maynard admitted guilt over her role in the plot and agreed to testify against Fahie in exchange for a lighter punishment.
Maynard’s son Kadeem was sentenced on November 20, 2023, to serve 57 months in prison after he pleaded guilty last year to a single count of conspiracy to import cocaine.

You read the article, but you obviously did not comprehend. It is Fahie’s lawyer Theresa Van Vliet who is going and spend some of Fahie’s money before he gets put away. It is right there in the opening paragraph of the article for all to see, read and comprehend.

Read again. It was his lawyer who said the date conflicted with her paid vacation. The judge was the one who set the date, and would obviously know what her calender looks like. Dont blame the judge. Blame his lawyer. She going to spend the million plus that she collected.

I find this judge to be weak. This judge entertained too much foolishness. From countless unnecessary pushing back of the conviction date and now sentencing. Even during the trial the judge behaved in a manner that is just lack luster. She would have seen and heard all the evidence presented. This would have made it difficult to near impossible to deny them.
Yet the judge chose to entertain the two rouge jurors looking to change their guilty plea minutes after they made them. I wont even be surprised if the judge fail to initiate procedures to have the two jurors investigated.
Now she is allowing furthur delay due to the defence lawyer’s personal commitment of a vacation. Weak judge
