False! Premier dispels rumours that quarantined returnees are reintegrating with public

Premier Andrew Fahie

Premier Andrew Fahie has dispelled recent rumours alleging that some returning nationals bound to be in quarantine have been leaving their designated isolation facilities and reintegrating with the general public.

Premier Fahie put an end to those rumours during Monday’s session of the House of Assembly where he said investigations show that the rumours which were spread on social media were untrue.

He said: “We’ve heard some rumours about this weekend with persons who came in and they are out on the street, and we went and we looked into all of those and up to this point we have found them not to be factual.”

“Yes, there are areas that we have to adjust but not to the level or the point of what we are seeing coming out in some of the social media,” he added.

Premier said some of the names circulating as persons who breached quarantine have turned out to be persons who were in the BVI before the territory’s first lockdown but had remained inside until recently.

Do not visit returning friends or family

In a prior statement, the Premier had urged residents not to visit any of their returning family or friends who must remain under quarantine for 14 days.

He also called for the public who may witness known returning nationals in breach of any of the quarantine protocols to contact the relevant authorities to report the incident.

“Please get on Facebook and tell your friends and family — all of them that are coming — to stay in the quarantine area … All of us that are here have worked so hard. We have adhered to all of the rules and thank God we are to the point where we are at zero confirmed coronavirus cases,” Premier Fahie said.

He added: “We want to make sure that those returning home also follow the rules and make sure that they do not mix and mingle with anyone until the 14 days are up. And after that is up, do not mix and mingle with anyone until you are tested and confirmed that you don’t have the virus.”

Residents with approved private quarantine facilities will continue to return into the territory up until June 15.

Maybe if you were a bit more open, honest and transparent people wouldn’t have to gossip.

You know, honesty about an investigation about why the lady was turned away from the hospital twice before she died of covid. No you are silent. So we don’t trust you. So we gossip.

You chatting foolishness. Compare to the last government or any Government around these parts of the woods this government has been transparent and open with the people of the Territory. They have given more information than we have seen any government given in a very long time. So let’s stop with some of this negativity.

standard mode of operation by government, it appears, is to subdue fear, anxiety and increased rebellion by keeping pertinent facts secret.

Shouldn’t quarrel with that approach. It has its place.

I don’t always agree with the Premier but I stand with him on this one. All some people in the BVI do is find fault and gossip. If there is something wrong then call and report it and don’t go gossiping on fb. It is as simple as that.

How can believe what the Premier is saying when most returning citizens/belongers were allowed to go to their own homes. Not only that, some have since been seen driving through the country.

What about those who have returned to family houses. Are the rest of the family able to come and go as they like? Surely if you are in contact with someone in quarantine, you should also remain indoors.

      THIS!!!!!!!

People DO NOT follow instructions and if in their home will try to do whatever they please.

You CANNOT expect NO CONTACT especially when food is being prepared and passed to the supposed room of the quarantined person.
