Famous photographer returning for Summer Sizzle

World-renowned photographer and former judge of America’s Next Top Model Nigel Barker is returning to the British Virgin Islands to host the annual Summer Sizzle fashion show.

The event is scheduled for July 28.

“Really excited to be back as the host of the Summer Sizzle BVI 2018. This year will be extra special not just because it’s the tenth anniversary but because the fashion community will be coming together in solidarity to help rebuild, restore and revive the BVI as a destination that means so much to so many,” said Barker.

This year’s staging is being held under the theme ‘Rebuild, Restore, Revive the BVI’.

Summer Sizzle BVI has also partnered with Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Education and Culture this year.

A media release from event organisers said the collaboration was developed because of Summer Sizzle BVI’s commitment to assist with hurricane recovery.

As part of the collaborative effort, a Hurricane Relief Community Service programme is being organised. Volunteers including models, designers, and celebrities will participate in a community cleanup, the media release said.

They will also participate in efforts for obtaining and distributing school supplies to students through the Family Support Network.

“The Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies has partnered with Summer Sizzle BVI creating a series of workshops for Friday, July 27 that caters to youths interested in the areas of the business of fashion, makeup and hairstyling. Students from high schools throughout the BVI are invited to attend with limited space,” the release said.

Summer Sizzle’s glam squad also plans to award a ‘hair and makeup package’ to six of top-graduating females from Elmore Stoutt High School on their graduation day.

In the meantime, other events scheduled for the tenth staging of Summer Sizzle will include the return of the white party on July 27, and a ‘Global Glamour Runway Show’ on July 28.

Summer Sizzle concludes on Sunday, July 29 with a sailing excursion and beach barbecue on the island of Virgin Gorda.

Oh now I understand. “Volunteers including models, designers, and celebrities will participate in a community cleanup, the media release said”. That’s why when I have tried to volunteer my time, skills, and resources to rebuild I’ve been told I’m not wanted. If I was famous and BVI could write a press release about me I’m sure they’d let me in. I’m only a carpenter, electrician, and rigger wanting to help for free, I’m not a celebrity!
