Farewell Commissioner Mick!
The Police Welfare Association this week unveiled Police Commissioner Michael ‘Mick’ Matthews’ commemorative plate — a signal that the UK national has reached the end of his tenure as the territory’s top cop.
The plate is mounted at the front of the Road Town Police Station where Matthews’ name is now engraved along with other former police commissioners dating back to 1967.
It was unveiled Tuesday night at the end of a farewell cocktail event for Matthews, who is completing his final week as Police Commissioner.
Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr and a number of police officers took turns recalling the “pleasurable working relationship” between themselves and the outgoing top cop.
“Soon-to-be Commissioner of Police Mark Collins also addressed the gathering with words of commendation for Matthews for ensuring his smooth transition and for his work in bringing the Force through very difficult times,” the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said in an official media release on Wednesday.
Responding to the tributes, Commissioner Matthews expressed gratitude and said his achievements were largely because of the exceptional men and women that already existed within RVIPF.
