Female cop interdicted for obstruction

A police officer was on Wednesday (June 16) interdicted from duty for alleged wrongdoing.

A media release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) on Thursday said the female cop is accused of obstruction while she was off duty.

The police are now investigating the matter.

The RVIPF did not give details but BVI News understands that the interdiction is in relation to a recent incident in which a woman believed to be the said cop was seen on amateur video footage seemingly blocking on-duty police officers from making an arrest.

Meanwhile, the RVIPF said Police Commissioner Mark Collins has reminded his officers and staff of the Force’s code of conduct as well as his expectations that “professional standards will be adhered to at all times”.

“He noted his firm stance that officers’ behaviour must be beyond reproach whether on or off duty. No charges have been laid in the matter,” the police media release stated.

The top cop said in a recent press conference that he plans to sanction an assessment of the police’s Professional Standards Department.

This department deals with all allegations against police officers.

The force is in a mess the nonsense the previous boss allowed some of them feel as if they are gods unto themselves.

You have officers doing security competing with other security companies out here while they have an advantage with inside info not to mention using their job as an edge to get clients.

But if you have officers calling ahead and just getting a slap on the wrist from the law what is inhibiting an arrest for them to do.

I wish the new commissioner good luck.

Agreed because the reality is this if officers are benefiting from the place having a need for security would they put their best foot forward to fight crime? No wonder violent crime had such a surge allegedly and likewise good luck to the new commissioner.

Yet another incident that is cause for an inquiry into the Governor led portfolio. The Governor gets a free pass for his leadership failures while local leaders are chastised. Bob Marley said it best. None but ourselves can free our minds.
