File photo

A crew member of a popular ferry operating between BVI and the neighbouring US Virgin Islands (USVI) was arrested on Monday, September 9, on suspicion of drug importation after marijuana was discovered aboard the vessel.

According to highly placed sources, more than 800 grams of cannabis were found during a routine Customs check shortly after the ferry arrived at the Road Town Ferry Terminal.

BVI News understands that the police were immediately called to the scene, where the crew member was arrested on suspicion of drug importation.

It is currently unclear whether the individual has been formally charged, but sources indicate that the crew member denies any knowledge of the drugs.

BVI News will provide more updates details become available.

This has happened before. Better he get caught here than in US where penalties are likely to be harsh. Best for him if he didn’t do it in the first place.

You can tell you some dumb piece of chit pha git or bich. Drop the hammer for 800 grams of WEED? LOLOLOLOL not 800lbs 800 GRAMS. He might not have been arrested in the U.S.

        • @ demonio negro says:

Please consider that cannabis use and ownership remains a federal offence in the 50 states plus territories, regardless of enactment of recreational cannabis laws in any particular state. So guaranteed that he would have been arrested in the US had he been caught by federal agents with more than a pound and half of weed. The individual involved would certainly be in jail in the US VIs had the US Coast Guard (zero tolerance, remember) inspected the vessel and found the stash. Might not even get bail without surrendering travel docs.

    • Wiki says says:

Cannabis in the United States Virgin Islands is legal for recreational use since January 18, 2023, under territorial law. Legislation to legalize was passed by the territorial legislature in 2022, and was signed into law on January 18.

Please can the Governor now assent the Cannabis bill and free the weed???? We new law enforcement focused on dangerous drugs and guns not mary-j.

The failure of the governor to assent is a breach of the constitution and is unprecedented since 1708 when the British monarch declined to assent the Scottish Militia Bill. If the UK want to shake off the “colonialist” accusations then they might want to stop acting like colonialists and blocking legislation passed by democratically elected government. We are pissing in the wind if we think we stop cannabis in a tropical climate and where our nearest neighbours already de-criminalised it.

GMO chicken that is affecting humans / boi go and free yourself from whatever is affecting you

  14. No legalization = more corruption says:

@hmm where have you been? unless know someone or search high & low or do it yourself all the weed is imported. America’s reject. Colombia unregulated. sleepy. recent years ever since Donald Trump federally legalized hemp… most of it is hemp aka mids not gonna get you high. No one is exporting weed & hardly any good weed coming in. There is good weed in the world but its not coming here.

Only the cheap stuff. I dont know but no one would buy weed again & again when it does nothing. Only a matter of time before they start spraying it down to screw people up & hook them.

Fent on the rise in our neighbor the USA and we will wait until its in the weed to then blame the weed for people dying because we failed to regulate it.

If broccoli was illegal it would have 10x as much pesticides and to risk your life in the middle of no where or back alley every time you want it even if once a year, rather than walk in a store or out in the open. That is how the youth turn to crime.

Then its a toss up whether its a good dealer or bad dealer, some dont even smoke.

In a legal market you have caretaker with reviews and its all good. If they short you or give wack product mold or whatever ask for a refund, replacement or take them to court. No violence. No one should be violent over the peace plant. But people do anything for money when its unregulated. Add crap? no problem only a matter of time.

Look at the stuff they put in pills in the states which is supposed to be official medicine. People cant make their own pills at home however they can grow their own weed when legal if they want to be 100% safe.

Go look for the cocaine & pass the cannabis bill. Its about time. Passed time.
