BVI News received reports of a fire at the Jerk Pit restaurant in Virgin Gorda, which occurred around 11:41 pm on Friday, January 17.

According to officers from the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services, the establishment was closed at the time, and the fire destroyed the structure. Fire personnel stationed in Virgin Gorda were able to contain the blaze before it spread to two nearby businesses.

While the restaurant is considered unsalvageable, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This incident marks the second reported property fire in the BVI for January 2025. The first occurred on Thursday evening, January 9, aboard a vessel named Phantom in Frenchman’s Cay. According to Chief Fire Officer McLean, the fire ignited when a spark occurred during the refueling process.
