First staging of JVD Fish & Fungi Frenzy postponed

Director of Tourism Clive McCoy

The first annual Jost Van Dyke Fish and Fungi Frenzy slated for tomorrow has been postponed until further notice.

This is according to the BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITB)—the organiser of the event.

“We did not get the full support of the businesses on Jost Van Dyke because it is so close to the Old Years Night and a lot of people are preparing for that so we have to reschedule for 2022,” Tourism Director McCoy told BVI News.

“We don’t have a current date in mind but as soon as we decide on when it will be held, we will be sure to let the people know about it,” McCoy said.

With the success of the recent Anegada Lobster Fest, the Tourist Board had hoped to ride the momentum into the Fish and Fungi Frenzy which was expected to bring much needed economic activity to the Jost Van Dyke community on December 30.

The event was expected to follow a similar format to Lobster Fest by encouraging patrons to explore the island’s different food establishments and sampling mouth-watering fish dishes while exploring the beauty of Jost Van Dyke, which many locals describe as the ‘fete island’.

    • Funny says:

It’s funny I thought the JVD event was being cancelled due to the increase in cases but that’s not the reason at all! This means Trellis Bay is going ahead with the NYE party

    • Can you read? says:

They aren’t cancelling New Year’s Events…plus Trellis is made up of a bunch of different bars doing their own thing. It’s not one big event like Foxy’s has in its back yard.

  3. truly says:

the TB do not have a clue about the tourist season, they bring Lobsterfest after one of the busiest weeks of the year(thanksgiving) and now try to bring Fish & Fungi at another busy week of the year (Xmas/NYE) they are a complete joke, spend all the advertising budget (90%) advertising Lobsterfest allover the world yet its the locals who come on the sunday that make the event, truly mismanaged and unkowlegable , its a joke!

I really think this is a good idea. I bet it will out run the Anegada lobster fest. Why?. It is so close to Tortola, people can go over there in 5 minutes and come back in the pm. you will have lots of vendors even from Tortola. Can’t wait. Plan for the week before the Spring Regatta.

  6. Seriously says:

When did you find out it was close to Dec. 31st.

  7. Hmmm says:

Dear editor, there is no such thing as a first annual event, inspite of intentions. An event cannot be considered an annual event until after it has been held for at least 2 consecutive years.

  8. Lodger says:

This is not the first time that an event has been called “the first annual …..” how can it be annual the first time. The intention might be there, but there is no guarantee that it will occur again. Would be better to say “the first of an intended annual event….”

  9. Didn't even know says:

Does Jost make fish and fungi a regular thing?? Is it on any of the menus at the restaurants?
    Seriously this TB is crap.
