FirstBank accountholders in BVI report missing balances

Account holders with 1FirstBank in the British Virgin Islands are facing a major financial issue as many report that their account balances have disappeared.

This problem, which was flagged on Tuesday, October 22, appears to be widespread, impacting both personal and business First Bank accounts across the territory.

Details remain unclear, but some account holders report seeing seeing a zero balance or, in some cases, a negative balance. One accountholder informed our news centre that the zero balance is only displayed on the home screen of the bank’s online platform. It remains unclear whether the apparently missing funds are accessible to account holders.

It is unclear whether this issue is a technical glitch or the result of foul play.

Up to publication time, the bank did not issue a statement regarding the situation. BVI News will provide updates as more information becomes available.

some investigative reporting on this developing story; e.g.

1)Have similar problems occurred in the FirstBank accounts in USVI and PR?

2)What type of accounts have been compromised? checking, business, personal???

3)Is this problem solely with internet banking or has physical paper money gone missing?

I utilise the service of a bank (Northeat Community Bank) in NYC when I am off island. For seven days was unable to access my info online while in NYC., Staring back at me was astatement,”no balance available”. but the ATM was accessible. The branch suggested that the headquarters was experiencing a glitch or revamping.Messaged to myself..” remove your coins and bank at a larger and more well known bank with branches.” Banking apparently will be implementing changes in the New Year…rumored but no official word as yet.
