Five dead in plane crash near USVI airport

Five persons including a member of the popular Stylee band died in a nasty plane crash near an airport in the neigbouring US Virgin Islands (USVI) last night.

USVI media reported that the privately chartered aircraft departed the airport in St Croix but started to experience mechanical issues sometime after.

The VI Consortium reported that the aircraft’s engine caught fire so the pilot attempted to circle back and land the plane.

The aircraft reportedly crashed in a field near the airport’s runway, killing all five occupants, including the pilot.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority said the crashed happened around 8:54pm.

The name of the now deceased Stylee band member is being withheld.
