Five gunmen strike in Road Town robbery

Not the actual gunman or firearm mentioned in the article.

Two men escaped without injury after encountering five armed robbers in Road Town last Saturday night.

According to information reaching our newsroom, the victims were standing in a parking lot near a nightclub when a vehicle pulled up and five armed men exited. The attackers, reportedly armed with handguns and assault rifles, instructed the men not to run.

However, the victims panicked and fled in opposite directions. One was reportedly chased, caught by the assailants, and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones. He was later released unharmed.

It remains unclear whether the second man was caught. However, police reportedly began investigating the incident immediately after it was reported and used CCTV footage to assist in identifying and arresting three suspects believed to be involved.

Authorities also located the vehicle used in the robbery. It is suspected to have been stolen, as the licence and registration details discovered inside reportedly did not match the vehicle. Ammunition was also recovered from the car and taken for further analysis.

At this time, it is unclear whether the three suspects remain in custody. Police are said to be continuing their search for the remaining individuals involved.

WHEREAS since the formation of this Government in April 2023, the Premier and Minister for Finance has governed in such a way that has led to a bleak economic outlook for the Territory, a rapidly declining quality of life for the people of the Virgin Islands and a lack of public confidence in his leadership and in his Government.

AND WHEREAS criminal activity, including murders and other gun crimes, robberies and burglaries continue to rise causing significant social and economic problems and to date the Premier and his Government (with two Government members being members of the National Security Council) has not produced a comprehensive crime reduction strategy to mitigate the situation.

AND WHEREAS our citizens and visitors continue to suffer from the deplorable conditions of our public infrastructure (especially our roads, sewage and the lack of access to a reliable supply of potable water etc.) which the Premier and Minister of Finance continues to willfully disregard by not providing the necessary financial resources to address the issues despite repeated calls to do so by the public and Members of the Opposition.

AND WHEREAS the Public Assistance program is not effectively and efficiently meeting the needs of the most vulnerable (elderly, unemployed, indigent) in our community due to a lack of proper restructuring of the Social Development Department to take on this new task (with approximately 1.7 Million USD allocated in 2024 for public assistance but only $600,000 USD was spent) and the lack of updated legislation to enable the staff at the department to be able to assist citizens in a more timely fashion.

AND WHEREAS unemployment in the Territory is extremely high, particularly among young people, and the Government has failed to address this issue in a sustainable way despite numerous requests from the public and Members of the 16
    Opposition to do so.

AND WHEREAS our citizens and visitors continue to endure the filthy physical state of the Territory which lacks proper maintenance and upkeep as can be evidence in the overgrown bushes that now compromise the safety of motorist and pedestrians and the ever presence of garbage, derelict vehicles and sunken boats from the hurricanes from the 2017 etc. which continue to spoil the natural beauty of our islands without the proper intervention by the Premier and his Government.

    Get tint off windows.
It should only take one year until all cars are legal with tint again.
Just remove the corrupt workers at DMV that are allowing vehicles with tint to get licenses.
Make managers accountable for vehicles that are passed with excess tint.
Make the Ministers Accountable for the Managers.
    Start to prosecute.

Employ people that will enforce the requirement.

Then get scooters off the road and disrupt their criminal activities.

When is the Government and Immigration going to tighten up this place? Don’t talk about police everywhere you drive, including on Wickhams Cay. You can smell weed.

This place has fallen. This generation has not gotten things handled. But over the years, persons with real abilities were pressured out of the Public Service, or kept down. Today, we are reaping those actions as the eggs have come home to roost.

The government has allowed the COI to erode their ability to put money through the economy. Then you have another party who recently used a funeral to promote themselves are hell bent getting back power by making the civil services ineffective for this Government, allegedly.

  5. Well done RVIPF says:

Although early days and one should never count chickens before they hatch, this sounds like an excellent job by the RVIPF, and should (so long as the evidence is well presented to the court) end in decent sentences for all concerned and act as a deterrent.

This sounds like a targeted attack, but the risk of any of us being caught in any crossfire is massive. Well done RVIPF and thank you!
